A question. I want to check and see if I've been called at home [ie. the 1471 system] but can I do it remotely? In essence, is there a way for me to check my 1471's from another number?

Thanks in advance.

I dont know definately but i very much doubt it as you would have to have a pin access code (so everyone else couldnt mess with your phone) and that i know of BT does not provide this kind of service.

No you can't. BT don't offer remote checking (I think because 1471 is a free service - it's the same with 1571 BTanswer).

I signed up for BT privacy recently so I can see who's rung/is ringing. If you get a phone with caller ID you can check to see who's rung throughout the day when you get home (don't know if there's any way of doing this remotely though).

Trouble is, it turns out I'm not very good at ignoring the phone if it's a number I don't know, so I still end up answering when it's sales people - most of them calling for the people who moved out of my house over a year ago!

Some answerphones will automatically dial 1471 after an incoming call, and record the message.
You can then dial into the answerphone and retrieve your messages, which will include the 1471 messages.
My machine dials 1471 even if the caller rings off before it can answer.

I'll post the make/model when I get home. It's one of the cheapy BT ones.

if you put 141 in your phone before you ring a number does it always withhold the caller, because i could swear i did this the other night and then that person said to me,sorry we were out the other night when you rang.

Be careful though as although 1471 is a free service if you press 3 for the exchange to dial the number back you get charged!! Thieving bandits don't tell you that though!!!

EDIT copy and pasted from BT website...

Our 1471 Call Return service tells you the last number that called while you were away from your phone. It also lets you return the call straight away, by simply pressing 3. 1471 is always active and useful even if you have an answering machine. The Call Return (press 3) element of BT 1471 costs a fixed fee of 6p. The fee will apply when customers press "3" to return the call to the telephone number of the last caller and will be charged regardless of whether or not the call is connected. Dialling BT 1471 without using the Call Return will remain a free service.
