View Full Version : Can anyone crochet or knit small cat blankets please for rain rescue
Hello there, we have so many abandoned cats and kits brought into Rain Rescue and would really appreciate small blankets for their beds and carriers, about 2' square would be great if this is possible.
Thank you!

I can!
Type of thing I gave Lucy (if you remember).
I often do these with left over/unused yarn and they usually end up at the pound as a lot of rescues don't want them ,they say cat/dog claws get caught, but I use them at home all the time and my cat has no problem.
Will drop them of at yours when I get a few together and will add to Millhouses knit and natter post , though we have a few projects on the go already!
Can I also add that the the council pound on spring street take old jumpers (or ones that don't turn out right)as bedding as they get desperate in the winter months. They often only use bedding once I'm told ,so any pretty blankets to Rainrescue and other stuff to pound maybe?
Starlet83 21-10-2010, 07:36 Yes I can! Anything to help! Currently knitting a blanket for baby but as soon as its done I will start on some for Rain..... Gutted as I gave a load of wool away the other week :(
lilypiglet 21-10-2010, 07:49 Okey dokey...better go and have a root thro' my knit bag...plenty of leftovers to knit up into a blanket...don't judge my efforts tho'..I've only just got back into knitting after nearly 20 years...I don't think the cat's will mind too much..:)
floralfoote 21-10-2010, 08:58 yes I will start for you later, you just want 2inch squares, that seems really small, I will have to get your address to bring them to you when I have finished them
2' square, Floral. 2 feet! Bless you! Aw thanks you lot, that's great of you.
It was seeing Gingers' little blankets that she gave to the lovely puss she fostered for Rain Rescue that set me thinking how good they were. Just as good as cat blankets if not better. At least the kits can snuggle down into hand made blankets. Luxury!
(By the way Gingers, Lucy is beautifully settled in her forever home, thank you for everything you did for her x)
Snagglepuss 21-10-2010, 09:34 Floralfoote, she needs the blanket to be about 2 foot square in size not just a 2" square hun xxx
Mr&MrsRadish 21-10-2010, 10:28 You've made me start another project Magsie. Groan!!! Where do we drop off the squares?
If anyone wants to drop these at Millhouses knit and natter group, I'll see they get to Magsies.
Mrs Radish , if you'd rather collect some at the Wool Baa , I will pick up from there. You would be very welcome to join us in the Robin Hood , of course.
Mr&MrsRadish 21-10-2010, 16:15 Thanks Gingers, I live nearer the Knit and Natter group, so I will drop off there. Will send you a pm when I am ready to pass them on. Cheers Mrs.
MARY POPPINS 22-10-2010, 07:40 Ive just finnished a knitted blanket for my little dogs and must say its their favourite one, its on the settee and its who ever gets there first but they really snuggle in to it, I do think knitted would be best for cats though as I agree with the crotched ones they could get their paws stuck in the holes.
I've got quite a bit of a wool stash as long as the little cats dont mind what colour, I'll do you a couple and I will post them to you.
Aw thanks for this Mary Pops. The crocheted ones, we use for the adult cats. Both knitted and crocheted are really soft and the rescues love them. x
lilypiglet 02-11-2010, 16:49 I thought this might be of interest to anyone wanting to knit a cat blanket

Enjoy!! :)
Miss Tryphena 03-11-2010, 06:37 My cats have never had any trouble with their crocheted blankets.
Is there any way of dropping blankets off if like me someone lives in Rotherham and can't make it to the meetings mentioned?
Mr&MrsRadish 03-11-2010, 15:32 Another interesting blanket for the kitty's is featured in this months Knitting Magazine. Its an Erika Knight one and it is circular, with a tinge of Union Jack about it.
