Does anyone here work for Telewest?
I need to speak to someone with a bit of brains

Does this mean that you regard Telewest employees as particularly intelligent people?

Don't be unkind, they all have a bit of brain.
If the whole lot of them clubbed together they might manage to assemble an entire brain from all the bits.
Unfortunately the assembled brain would only be enough to power an earwig.

Telewest - the same company that told Cycleracer he couldn't share an internet connection between two computers? :P

Perhaps if you post a bit more information here a) you might get more of a reply and b) this thread is less likely to be moved to "Misc".

When you call telewest you have to call a seperate department for internet,I have always found them quite helpfull.
I enquired about the same problem as cycleracer, they said it can be done providing you have the correct equipment.
They said get the equipment and if you phone us we will talk you through the setup (as they did with my wireless lan).

If you talk to the 150 monkies, that is a different story.

Sorry in a "tad"of a bad mood when posted.

I am moving out of where I am from a shared house to my own place, I requested a 'transfer of owndership' form 3 weeks ago. Got told the usaul 7 days time I will have it, 7 days later nothing, called requested another, 7 days passed and you guessed it nothing, called again and requested another, 7th day today and once again nothing.

With me good....

Last tues I called in on my lunch to pay bill over phone, did so told the person I spoke to to only take the jan bill not the part for feb as I will not be living at the house and the account will be in someone elses name. What did the person do take the full 2 months....
I did not know this till the night after where I got an phone call saying sorry and it will be credited back in 24 hours.

Still with me, good...

The money only went back in to my account this morning, so that meansI have defaulted an DD from another business and bank charge me £25 for the privalage and the business charge me £25 for non payment. I did not put extra funds in this account as Telewest assured me that It would be back in 24 hours.

Thus when I got on from work tonight to fine 2 extra bills for the £25 each I was a 'tad' annoyed. And to top it all off the broadband connction was down.
restared cable modem
connection back....
10 mins later connection down
restart modem
connecton back.....
(repeat 3 times while onhold to tech support)

So this is why I am very annoyed and want someone to sort it out! So much so that I am posting on here, customer server does not help what so ever.

Done!

well first things first - I hope telewest are refunding your charges - they have already admited their error and their error has resulted in far too much cost for you!
Get your proof together - letters from bank and others and ring em up and get refund or your bills free next few months???

Don't know about techy stuff.

I found that as long as the system was working (most of the time I'm happy to say) then it's efficient and cost effective. As soon as something goes wrong then you have a problem...and not just the problem that your equipment isn't working properly.

I had numerous problems with Telewest customer service over the last few years in that they just don't communicate with each other. If you have to call them up and ask for something you have to be prepared to have to ring back again and again until it finally gets sorted. Clearly it isn't common practice to leave notes on their customers' files as every time you call you have to explain your problem completely.....AGAIN!

This is however if you can get into a Telewest area in Sheffield. I have found that they are very limited and it was just sheer luck that I managed to move to two places in the whole of the city that they actually provide service to. :(

They do give compensation though (they must be used to it) so as tango says, make sure you shout loudly and you'll get something for your trouble.

With regard to the 'two computers on one connection' thing I'd recommend a wireless router. I used one the last time I had cable and they are VERY useful as you can move your computer anywhere in the house, not have to mess about with wires at all and you'll still get an 80% signal at the worst of times. :) Wireless router + wireless network card = happy Pauly.

Theyre useless. Last night, web browsing on my broadband connection was incredibly slow. Id had better performance from my old 33k modem, it was that bad. Phoned tech support, they told me it was nothing to do with them, it was down to my machine, and I should "get someone who knows about PCs to have a look at it". After I pointed out that I probably know more about PCs than he ever will, having been building them for myself and others for the best part of 10 years now, and that I knew for a fact there was nothing wrong at my end, they hung up. So, I posted a message in the Blueyonder support newsgroup, detailing the problem with traceroute results and modem logs. Miraculously, I woke up this morning and found that it was now fixed, after chinging nothing at all on my computer. The tech support havent got a clue what theyre talking about half the time, and they just try to baffle you with tech speak, When they realise that the person theyre talking to actually knows something about computers, half the time they realise that the user can see throught theyre excuses for their networks poor performance and either offer to send out a tech, offer a refund, or, as has happened to me more than once, just hang up. Id ditch it, but theyre the only cable supplier in the area, and the cheapest broadband deal.

That seems to be universal though, not just Telewest.... the ISPs employ retards who could no more sort out their own lunches than sort out your internet problems.

Also, I'm not being funny but why is it that tech support people are never English?! They always have foreign accents, usually either Scottish, Irish or German.... My only problem with this, is that being deaf I have to listen hard to people anyway, but when they've got a hard to fathom accent, it's made extremely harder and somewhat annoying.

LOL,,,,I know that feeling well, sky is one of the worse ones for it.
You call them with a genuine fault and listen to the ramblings of some moron.
You think you have the idea of the conversation, until you find yourself putting your smartcard up the cats a***.

I think they just have a set list of answers, and god help you if your problem is not on it.

By the sounds of it, Blueyonders standard answer to everything now is "you must have a virus, its not our fault". The tech staff on the newsgroup are far better...they treat you as if you know what youre talking about. Phone support told me my machine was at fault, after posting traceroutes and modem logs to the newsgroup, theyve told me my SNR is low and have got a tech investigating it now. Use the newsgroup for your support, forget the phone, its crap.

Just about to put telewest to the test.

We were due to move today but the move has been delayed until next week.
The move team at Telewest had arranged to cut off our service on the 7th and reconnect it on the 9th (quite impressed).

We told them the move was delayed and we will be moving on the 12th,they arranged cut off for that date and reconnection on 14th (even more impressed)

Guess what ? they cut phone off on the 6th (not impresed),called Telewest, they said it was their fault and they are sorry they will have it back on in two hours (quite pleased).

Two hours had elasped and the service is not back on,they say it has all been cancelled by the move team, even the reconection for new address has been cancelled (P***ed off now).

Told it will be another two hours and they promised it will be put back on (now living in hope),they admit it is their fault.

Its now the 7th and the phone is still not on,called them again this morning and they are looking into it (yeh right).

What makes me laugh is the fact that they have not cut off the Tv or Broadband,I suppose there is time yet.

Now going to kick off big time with them,I will demand all manner of discounts and freebies off them.

wish me luck,,,,,lol

You would be good using the type talk service with the built in text phone on windows (hyperterminal).

The plus side is you can save conversations as a text file and becuase it is a text phone you do not need to tell them this, as it is not being recorded in the same way as a voice call. meaning they agree to their words being transcripted when they agree to take the call.

Plus when you dial the number via text diect you get a discount on your phone bill (well you do with BT), for that call to bring it in line with a voice call.

I had a problem with telewest, basicly not being in my opinion the cheapest, so I moved my line to BT and ported my number.

To do this BT needed confiramtion and approval from Telewest as they owned the number.

BT got this and gave me a connection date, I got a disconnection date from telewest.

All this went well.

9 months later my mum (it was her house) lucky I was there to take the call, they say I was 9 Months in arrers and they were going to cut me off. I told they would find that hard to do as I was disconnected 9 months before. He said I was on incoming calls only for non payment, I said I wasn't and I ported my numeber. He then said I must be on imcoming calls as this is how they got hold of me and that is the number on the account. I again told him the numebr had been ported to BT this is how I can recive incoming calls.

It took a futher 6 months to get sorted, went to a debt collector who hassled me more than telewest. (can't blame them too much as telewest wouldn't tell them to drop the case).

Becuase of this I would NEVER go back to telewest again, as this matter should have been sorted as soon as the error was relised not take a further 6 months.

I'm just glad the phone calls were to a free phone number lost track how many times I phoned them.

They have done the same to my brother but his boss is dealing with it for him, as it has gone to court via a debt collection company. They say it becuase he hasn't been answering to letters that have been going to a flat that isn't there anymore, that he was still connected to 8 months after they demolshed it. Thats a good one yeah.

His boss btw is a partner in a solicitors in Barnsley. Doing it for free as well.

His boss is awaiting on the proof from telewest that my brother was still connected to they cut him off. even though like I said this would be 8 months after the flat was knocked down 10 months after my brother disconnected it and got his "final" bill that says the date that he was disconnected.

I mean, not last weekend but the weekend before, the Internet went down completely. Crash bash style. I was fuming.

When I phoned Telewest, after pressing millions of buttons to get me to the right place, it turns out that I have to ring a 50p a minute number up to find out that it was their fault.

I shouted and shouted at the call-handler until I was blue in the face, but she said there was nothing she could do. Humbug! This sort of thing really gets my goat! It really does!

So not only did I lose an entire weekend but the Monday as well. Three whole days the Internet was down, and not one, no not one sodding apology.

If it happens again, I will write personally to the Manager of the Internet and get the company removed.

No, the Manager of the Internet.I don't know his name, but it's some guy in a suit. I'll find out what they call him, though.

Just one more slip-up from Telewest and I kick of big-style!
