Just being nosy really!
Does anyone know what the new houses are for by Bamforth street tram stop, I keep passing them and noticing they all have exactly the same furniture, are they hostels or something?

Housing Association as far as I know. They look awful. You live in hope that one day the local council or housing associations will use a bit of imagination and design skills and maybe come up with something more appealing to the eye.

They won't be for sale if they are Housing Association..not yet anyway.
Each to their own I guess.

They are South Yorkshire Housing Association properties which I assume will be for rent. They have huge waiting lists so if you're interested I'd get in touch asap.

Apparently they are homes to get homeless people off the street. Someone i work with said her sister applied to work there as a councilor for the homeless so if you own property round there, expect to lose some value on your home!!!!

they are all interim housing, which range from homeless, aslyum seekers, battered wifes and asbo order types, there not for sale but are top quality accomadation for 3-6 mths only.
so no you cant have one if youre an english, taxpaying, law abidding citizen.

I never knew battered wives couldn't be English, taxpaying, or law-abiding! You learn something everyday!

I live very close to these new flats, and believe me they can't be any worse than it was before the bail hostel behind the dentists on the corner of Victor Street was closed down. All kinds of shenanigans including waking up one morning to find that one of the scroats had shot the windows out of my car in his mistaken belief that I was the person that reported him for walking about the place with a shotgun the previous day. I was such a happy chicken that day!

A minority of people using temporary housing are like that. You have to go into temporary accomadation nowadays if you really are on the skids and have no option but council housing and have to wait for rehoming. Most of the people in there will probably be families with kids - yes there will be some complete and utter scumbags in there but there will also be some poor sods who are there because they genuinely have no option.

And they'll be living right next door to those scumbags. So please don't demonise everyone in temporary accomodation, some of them are decent and they're having a hard time anyway.

How long was the bail hostel there? I used to live on Victor Street and never knew anything about this place....

This is slightly freaky- we seem to live some sort of parallel existence- when did you move out of Victor Street? We must surely have met, either at home or in Roxy's. Either that or you're stalking me from a very very long distance :help: :D

Let me think, the bail hostel was there from early 90s (can't remember exactly when) until just about 2001, and when it was closed down it was in such a bad state that it took several months of work to get it habitable again. It was in the bit between the dentists and the toll house.

I think that it had security problems after the police took the doors off the hinges every couple of weeks while raiding it- but at least they didn't have far to come. It was such a waste of petrol, coming all the way from Hammerton Road in their jam sandwiches!

Weird. My mum and dad still live there...

I guess I left VS in '99. Moved to Manchester from there...

Wait - does your dad have anything to do with cars?

No, sorry, the similarity seems to end there, but if you were there early 90's, I was the mad thing with the black trike.

Lightbulb moment- I think I know who you are, and I think that your parents have a sibling to one of my cats. If you are who I think you are, then you'll know me from that too.

Sorry for hijacking the thread folks- back to the original topic.

I would be really interested (for that read nosey) if anybody has had a look round any of these flats cos the rumours about house value as a result of the flats going up are rife around here.

Personally I think that it's all scaremongering and that there really isn't a problem at all- before the flats were there it was a bit of ugly scrub land. Whoever is going to be put in the flats, if it's well managed it shouldn't be a problem.
