theres this young lady working at boots, shes small but shes very polite. one time it was very busy and i overheard her talking with another staff, saying she doesnt mind working abit more longer since there were alot of ppl queuing.

reminds me of another time at costa coffee, this lady left as soon as her shift was over, not paying attention to how many ppl were waiting to be served.

Why should she stay if she isn't getting paid for it?

I work in my local shop on a sunday and as soon as my shift is finished I go. My feet are killing from being stood for 5 hours serving on a till and if you stay that bit longer you will never get away because someone else will always want serving.

I find that most of the checkout people at Tesco's Archer Road store are usually very friendly, polite and helpful.

John Lewis. The staff there are always top class!! Occassionally a little too helpful if anything, but you can't complain about that, can you!

Mine are both car-related, but it's important to find a good place to sort your car;

Bellamy's Autos, in Hillsborough.
Mainly a Citroen specialist, but does most makes I think. Always sorted my car cheap and done a good job.

Dexel Tyre Ltd, also in Hillsborough. Always have what i've needed in stock, and sorted it while i've waited - and for fairly cheap too.

cool thanks, Bellamy's has now got my business, as I'm used to getting ripped off.

Anyone know a good place for motorbike servicing, it's a Honda if it's relevant.

I used to manage a shoe-shop, but I actually disliked all the customers intensely. They used to get in my way all the time when I was trying to sort out my displays.

I used to chuck them out bang on 5.30 every night, no messing.

Well done to Sheffield gritters. It took me 1 3/4 hours to get 13 miles but the roads I chose (not Uni roundabout, been in Sheffield too long to try that) were ice free even around Nether Edge, Hunters Bar and Broomhill. I was dreading the journey but this time they seem to have got it right.

Thought of another place that's good but couldnt locate this thread the other day (no - not even with the search function!)

Butterworths Cycles, Hillsborough.

If you're after a bike or bike stuff, they're the shop to go to. I've been using them for years and they've always been fantastic - really helpful, and they seem to appreciate your custom too, unlike most other cycle shops I know.

I was in Atkinsons department store yesterday, on work business, I had to hand deliver an urgent letter to a manager, reporting to the store's reception desk.

Reception Desk? I thought.. In Atkinsons??? Whaa...? Where...?

I asked for directions from a young lady who was working on the shop-floor (near-ish to the entrance).

Bless her, she "dropped" what she was doing, and escorted me all the way to the reception desk, got one of her colleagues to operate the wheelchair lift to get me onto the Mezzanine floor,to see the person I needed to deal with.

It was lovely, she was so helpful, and pleasant, and she knew exactly what was needed, and it was done

I reckon it was a 10/10 for that store, from me.

:D

I find that, generally speaking, people who work in shops in Sheffield are friendlier than down south. In London it's hard to get a smile or a friendly word out of the shop assistants. Could be the proportionately higher number of junkies, rude tourists, armed robbers, non-English speaking asylum seekers and general nutters they have to deal with in London has made them more suspicious.

Just like to say, what a nice thread. It's rare that people stop to appreciate good service, and all too common that we complain for ever about bad service.

Bellamys are good. I go there. They are very patient with me as I play the idiot.

I have an ageing Xantia (ptui!) and Bellamys keep it going for me.

Few weeks back now, but I had some excellent service in Dixons (for a change) by someone called "Chris"

And in GAME in meadowhall, "Jack" (short-medium length brownish hair) is very helpful and actually helps customers instead of forcing them into buying PS2s! (annoying when i want a gamecube game  )

Staff in Olive Grove sarnie shop are always nice and friendly in a morning, even if they do get my order wrong half the time :)

The nice lads at GAME in Fargate... I went in last week to swap an Xbox game I'd bought the previous week that I didn't like, and they were like "oh yeah good choice to trade that back in, it's crap", and commended me on my choice of game to get instead, namely Midway Arcade Treasures, a collection of classic Midway arcade games such as Gauntlet, Paperboy, Rampage, Smash TV, Robotron and others.

Very friendly chaps, couldn't get better service anywhere really :)

Makes a change as well, usually game shop staff are morons who know all of buggery about games, they're usually like "hey, we just sell 'em, we don't get paid enough to actually know anything about them"...

There must be something in the water at Fargate that delivers good service to all who drink it,
as I took my Ray Bans into Boots to ask them if they'd fix the arm as the screw that holds them had come loose and got lost. A lovely young lass took them from me, told me to sit down and she disappeared for a few minutes eventually arriving back with my Bans back in one piece. HURRAH!
so pleased was I with the service that I wanted her to take something but she wouldn't.
She told me "no thanks it was only a little screw".
Three cheers for Boots
hip hip etc
