View Full Version : Who remembers Sheffield band the Various Vegetables?
bluemonday 16-10-2005, 22:45 Who remembers this Sheffield band from the early 90s?
Anyone know where the band members are now - if they went on to be in other bands or anything?
Oh yes i remember them, my mates appalling band once supported a gig they did at Sheff Uni ( not in the Octogan though).
I can't remember anything except the T-Shirts they had.
Guderian 17-10-2005, 11:59 Whats going on? Justin?
Le_Rosbif 17-10-2005, 12:03 Justin Wood works with me.
He has fans, oh dear.
warmporch 17-10-2005, 12:17 Jody Wildgoose, who was the bassist in VV, is releasing his second solo album on Sketchbook records, probably it January. His stuff is all done on 4 and 8 track machines and is absolutely mint.
I saw Various Vegetables about 10 times between 1991-1993, including seeing them at the marquee in london.I know Jody Wildgoose has done solo stuff not sure about the rest of them.
jerrydog 17-10-2005, 22:20 i can remember going to see various vegetables at nelson mandela building in oct 92? as part of sheffield's sound city
Some are amusing themselves playing funk in a private club down Shalesmoor, the guitarist is making commercial ringtones. The drummer does stuff with Jody Wildgoose and has a new band going.
theimposter 22-10-2005, 22:26 I remember that when they did the single on Gift 'Im OK' that it was a let down...very poorly recorded compared to them live.
the veg singer is a civil servant with wife and two kids, back in sheffield after spells in leed and london. rock and roll occasionally at weekends - sad but i'm happy!
as previously noted, jody is about to release his second album and it is absolute bloody genius - i was so happy for him i shed a tear when i heard it...
bluemonday 04-12-2005, 20:02 I thought the I'm OK single was ace! I loved all the tracks on that.
Those early 90s bring back happy musical memories.
koenigsinger 05-12-2005, 03:44 supported the veggies in 92/93 ish, at the leadmill

back then I was in a band called 2 til 10, which eventually dropped the 'til' and became 2:10...
we played the leadmill, hallamshire, uni, and did a couple of record company showcases in manchester but if truth be known although we were well received and had a faithful (if small) following, we were never really destined for greatness. There were four very distinct personalities/egos and too much 'politics' went on for my liking. We split in 1994, I hung up my mic for a couple of years, dabbled again with a band called sikorski, but that was just a little hobby, before getting a call in 2002 to audition for the Sharp Cuts. Been with themn now since 2003, and loving it, also written and recorded an album with my mate James Bacon, who was in a band called mindfeel with Simon Hinkler ( artery/pulp/the mission). We're calling the project 'Grosse Konig' and the album will be available in January, as will our website which is currently 'under construction'. I realise you didnt ask for all that info but if ya get me started on music I will ramble :hihi:
coming soon grossekonig.co.uk
melthebell 20-12-2005, 21:43 i used to see the veggies a bit, used to know at least two of them, names are sketchy now

melthebell 20-12-2005, 21:45 yes it is jody i knew, just seen a picture on the sketchbook records site i just googled :)

ayup theimposter.... it was These Animal Men who we supported at the hallamshire, and it was a great night, the place was rammed even when we were on, and we had a top laugh. One of the funny things about that night was these animal men, onstage they were all shouty and 'punk' but offstage they were, with all respect, a bunch of southern softies , 'hooligan' was actually the very nicely spoken 'julian' and the drummer was getting all upset because he thought our drummer was going to wreck his snare, til we explained we had our own stuff. they had the big dressing room upstairs, and we didnt get a dressing room at all , they were complaining that there were not enough sandwiches and cans of lager, but all in all they were ok lads.
aah memories, it was a great scene back then, would love to see that flyer and any pics you took theimposter.

... not wanting to split hairs, but the line-up at the city hall ballroom was Pulp, Various Vegetables, Longpigs. The Longpigs might have been a lot better than us, but they were supporting!
