View Full Version : What are the best needles to get?
Woolly girl 11-10-2010, 17:08 I'm looking to get my mum some new knitting needles for Chrimbo and wonder if anyone can recommend some. Price isnt an issue, just want to get her something good she will enjoy using!!!
Thanks in advance :)
There's no such thing as 'best' I'm afraid, just what an individual likes.
I can't knit any more due to disability, but when I did knit I was desperately in love with my bamboo needles and found knitting with anything else really hard.
What does your mum knit with at the moment? What sort of things does she like to knit? Are you looking for standard needles, DPNs or circular needles?
Mr&MrsRadish 11-10-2010, 17:17 The knit pro ones are beautiful, but I don't take them out of the house because I am clumsy. I know these are beautiful because my Uncle, who is slightly wappy and has absolutely no interest in knitting said I had to have the set, and gave me some money towards them. I also like the look of those "square" ones, that are apparently easier on the hands, but have never used them to back the theory up. I would have thought in you're line of work you are busting the seams with catalogues from suppliers. I hope your mam loves whatever you get her, good luck with it!
Moonfire 11-10-2010, 19:29 I thought this might be helpful to you...I wouldn't mind trying the rosewood

Knitpro are gorgeous, and lovely to knit with.
I have some rosewood (I think!) needles which are equally gorgeous.
It depends on what she likes to knit with, as I've known some people who can't get on with wood/bamboo (crazy folk :D).
I think a set of Knitpro are nice as a gift though.
By Knitpro, we mean these (http://www.knitpro.eu/Symfonie_Wood.aspx?ch=NEEDLE&left=WO)

*sigh* Would your uncle like to adopt another niece? ;) *sigh*
Mr&MrsRadish 11-10-2010, 23:39 Sorry P.T., one expensive niece is enough for him! If you don't believe me ask Mr Radish and JillM for verification!

call me cynical...but why dont you ask the people at the website you advertise in your signature?
maybe some of the people who donate to your knitting scheme will have a few ideas too?
personally, i prefer bamboo needles, but it really is a case of each to their own.
maybe have a nosy at what your mum already has in her knitting case, or try and subtley work a conversation in along the lines of 'i saw this thread on a forum where people were discussign their favorite and dream needles...what are yours mum?'

*thinks....*
I could always try and get on the right side of him by being just slightly less expensive for him than you are.....?
Woolly girl 12-10-2010, 09:21 Unfortunately, even in my line of work, my mum is the experienced one with the knitting and I am the beginner!! Lol,
Some good tips though so I will definitely check them out!!!
