No problem Trekker.

British vehicles, 1945 - 1970, are a great interest of mine. So are brochures and publicity materials for the same.

Could never afford to buy/run a real one though.:(

Isnt there anyone who went round taking photos of car parks or the like in Sheffield in the 50s ,60s or 70s (preferably full of cars!)?...possibly aerial views, after all there are plenty of old Sheffield books full of photos of buildings, streets etc.

Have a look at this thread I started sometime ago. It has a link to photo of the car park in pond street. If you blow it up you might be able to make some cars out!!!

Having studied the Pond Street photo, I have come to the conclusion that it was taken no earlier than 1969 - because of the Ford Capris shown. Can't clearly identify the 'versions' of a lot of the cars, but have listed the year of first manufacture for each model and hope I am accurate.

Alot of these cars were still being made in the mid 70s, but there appears to be a shortage of 1970s 'new' models. So I'd go with 1969-1970 ish.

Ford Popular (mid 50s)
Morris 1000 (1956)
Austin A40 (1958)
Mini (1959)
BMC (Morris) LD van (1959)
Ford Anglia (1959)
Jaguar Mk2 (1959)
Hillman Minx (1961)
Ford Consul Classic (1961)
Morris Oxford VI (1961)
Austin A60 Cambridge (1961)
Triumph Herald (1961)
Austin/Morris 1100 (1962)
Ford Zephyr 4 MkIII (1962)
Vauxhall Viva HA (1963)
Triumph Spitfire MkII (1963)
Ford Corsair (1963)
Hillman Minx IIIA (1964)
Vauxhall Viva HB (1966)
Ford Escort Mk (1968)
Ford Capri (1969)

Have ignored the Reliant Robins, Volkswagens (Beetles and 1500 Variants) etc.

Have fun picking them out. (Haven't distinguished between body styles).

 PS. Am I sad, or what?

Also in picture (behind car park sign, next to Ford Zephyr ) is a Vauxhall Ventora..with black vinyl roof. These were made from 68 to 72 so it seems like 69 to me aswell.

I am amazed that you guys can name all these cars, well done.
If you really want to get into this photo I have put a link to the original size photo I took back in 69/70?

Beware this file is 6.5Mb.

Have fun! :)

If you right click on it and save it your HD you can open it in a viewer and zoom in.

Did they have Robins then Saxon51? I can see a few Regals and must admit to owning one. Regal Supervan :hihi:

Well it was better than Honeymooning on a Vespa :) Got all the camping gear in it and we were dry and warm. I look back fondly on that first "car". It suited us OK until we bought a Triumph 1500 FWD.

Well noted Lostrider, 1973 when Robin introduced.

The car just beyond the front of the bus in the car park looks a bit like a Citroen DI and moving further left to the other side of the trucks seems to be the back of an Austin A35 van. I also agree that the date is probably 1969 to 1970ish, since the Mk 1 Capris were introduced in 1969 and there seems to be a lack of 1970s styles.

Here are some other pictures of cars including some from the 1960s and 1950s.
