nikki-red 11-10-2010, 12:11 Same night as Freedom!!
Reesh2052 11-10-2010, 12:14 Yes but Sheffield has room for both events and they are both different too!!!!
nikki-red 11-10-2010, 12:26 It is a shame tho as Im sure my son (and many others) wouldve liked to go to both.
Kids can pay on the door as well (£6.50) - but its better to buy tickets in advance as its cheaper and saves disappointment as tickets are limited.

There are so few events like this for young people who often have nothing more to do at a weekend than go drinking and hanging around being bored etc in the local park or shopping areas.
I think events like this should be supported - its true that there is nothing for this age group to do - up till now there has only been Freedom - which is a great event but not all parents like their kids going into the city centre - which is why Energy is an excellent alternative. Its really well lit at City Limits and easy to pull into Capel st at the side to drop off or pick up the kids.
nikki-red 11-10-2010, 12:56 I totally agree, its great for the kids to have somewhere safe where they can go and feel a bit grown up.
My point is that with Freedom and Energy, they could have 2 nights a month to go out, instead of them both being on the same night.

Exactly, so why make it so they have to chose between the two?

Sometimes it can be unavoidable for the organisers - it can be down to the availabiltiy of venues or entertainment.
nikki-red 11-10-2010, 13:41 Fair enough, I was jumping to the conclusion that the two were in competition, sorry.
My 13 year old went to his first Freedom last month and cant wait for the next one. If Energy is on a different day next time Im sure he'll be there as well.

The other thing to bear in mind as well is that Freedom is a well established commercial operation whereas Energy is run by a charity and totally manned by volunteers - so I guess sometimes the date of the event will also have to be planned around staff availability. The two are defo not in competition - they work hand in hand - with one offering a city centre location and the other offering an alternative out of town - in an ideal world they would always be on different dates so that kids can indeed go to both - but in reality its a little bit more complicated than that and cometimes they will clash. But at least its good to know that there are things like this coming to Sheffield - at the end of the day its about giving our kids something to do that they actually enjoy whilst keeping them safe at the same time.
Reesh2052 12-10-2010, 13:20 Tickets can also be collected from Woodthorpe Development Trust office at 14 Ulley Road, Woodthorpe.S13 8BB,at Get Hooked on Life office at SWFC on Penistone Road or at City Limits Dance Studio on Penistone Road.
Just been talking to a lady this morning who told me about all the reasons that she WOULD NOT - let her 14 year old go to an event like this - this was based on what she THOUGHT she knew about such events.
ENERGY is all about kids having fun - BUT the no 1 priority is SAFETY - and ENERGY has a 100% trouble free track record. The event is well manned and uses SIA registed security staff - all other staff hold enhanced CRB checks. THere is a strict NO ALCOHOL policy (and for those of you who are wondering - NO, NO, NO the staff are not allowed to drink on duty) simply put - there is no alcohol served to ANYONE at an ENERGY night. This event is endorsed by both South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield City Council - and has been fortunate enough to receive some much needed funding from the local authority as it is recognised as being the perfect way of keeping young people off the streets on a Saturday night. ENERGY encourages young people to be dropped off and picket up by parents and wherever possible those who chose to use public transport are escorted to tram/bus stops at the end of the night if they are in any doubt as to where the nearest one is.
Gender specific pat downs and bag searches take place as the kids com in as do random breath tests -any one failing any of these checks will be refused entry and turned over to the local police. on top of all of this the kids have a WICKED time - they get to listed to the latest music from one of Sheffield's top DJ's and there is always live entertainment. On Saturday - ENERGY is featuring 'ICE' from Britains Got Talent. So, if you are a parent, please let your teenagers come to ENERGY - they will have the time of their life and you will know that they are safe and secure. There are still some advance tickets available or they can pay on the door:hihi:

Hi Kelly - thank you for this wonderful feedback - its comments like this that keep us going. Glad you enjoyed Fugative - I spent most of the night with him and he said that you guys were one of the best crowds he had ever played to and he has promised to come back again. We are working on getting the photos on Facebook as we speak. Hopefully we will see you at the next ENERGY - details will be released soon. Regards Lady K
