Hello,

My grandad has written an account of his army days in the Irish Guards, from 1936 to the end of World War 2.

I've put it on the web, with illustrations and colour plates.

Enjoy.

I think articles like this are very educating for my own generation as well as that of my children who never experienced the war!

Your Grandad and others may also like to look at this presentation I found on the web, I found it very interesting!

Many thanks Karl, i enjoyed reading this, and it's posts like this which illustrate what a great thing the internet can be.
History written by those who lived it and helped to shape it.
I hope this inspires more of our senior members to put their memories onto the internet.

Fantastic reading, I only wish I would have done the same with my Grandfather before he died.

Why do we always wait till it's too late to ask our relatives of their past lives. It would make wonderful reading for future family members. My own father was in the army in the 20s and later in ww2. I am now trying to get his records, I have the service records but will have to go to the PRO to get more info. I know it will be interesting to find out where he actually served

That was really good reading. You must be very proud of your Grandad. It is a really good story to hand down to your future generations.

Karl,

Excellent website.
I often fancy getting my grandand to write down his accounts of the war but I'm not sure if he'd be up to it.

I'll have a good read of yours and maybe it will inspire me to give him a nudge.
