I have been researching my family tree for a number of years now on and off.
My previous software & files (old version of family tree maker) are now trapped on an old PC that I can no longer access....so I am about to buy some new updated software for my laptop....
Any recommendations???
(p.s. I now back up all data to a seperate hard drive - so it shouldn;t happen again!)
mods: I created this post in sheffield history as most of our geneologists frequent this board - but feel free to move if this is wrong. cheers. :)

Hi Loopylou
Have you tried Legacy, It's free.
LoopyLou
I'm in the same situation as youand I have been promised a family tree programme for christmas.
Recently in the Computer Active Magazine they did a survey of them and the Legacy programme came out as their recommendation.
I have tried the freeware ore on the net but wasn't too happy with it.
They do a Deluxe version for around 30 pounds and I'm wondering if that is Ok.
Like you I'd really appreciate some advice on which programme to choose.
Happy Days!

Have you tried the free family history programme that's available as a download from the Mormon site, Latter Day Saints?
I use it and it produces some excellent reports
