By chippy I mean fish and Chip shop not carpenter!!

Anyway, it's friday ( traditional fish day) and I wondered if anyone could tell me of anywhere in the S10 area (will travel for excellent recomendations outside this area) for a really fantastic, excellent Fish & chip shop.

Im looking for lovely white fish in a crispy batter and hand cut chunky crispy chips!!

I've been in Sheffield 7 years and I've struggled and to find a decent chippy.

There was one near the Hallam University -Pond street. The guy cooked his chips in beef dripping, mmmm. Anyway he closed down a while ago and I think he was one of the last Master Friers.

Please help, there must be another........

Broomhead's on Crookes or if you're after slightly bigger portions (and no doubt prepared to wait) then the one in Crosspool.

Having said this, my wife and I went up to the Sportsman at Hallam Tuesday lunchtime and both had fish and chips.

It was top-notch, tasting like fish does at Whitby, huge portions, really crispy batter and the pleasure of having sauces served in little dishes instead of those pathetic plastic sachets.

And to top it off, handpulled Timmy Taylors.

(Good on yer, Mike and Jill.)

Now then!

usually (that sounds bad), I will go to Broomhill Friery which is fab (if you get the smaller lady she gives you loads!) but that's for my donner meat.
If I want fish, I have been told to go to admiral their fish is fantastic! (Although I did have one on an offday and regretted it!)

But yes - would certainly recommend The admiral on Crookes (opposite jack fulton's i think, near pizza hut and vid shop, same side). It's brill for fish USUALLY.

I agree - Admiral is best - I drive from Fulwood to go there even though Ranmoor and Crosspool chippies are nearer.

Nice fish, good sausages and doner is OK if you really want one.

Huge portions of good chips too.

I can recommend the night time special, full size Cod & Small chips for about £ 3 to £ 3.50 I think.

Just enough chips for me that.

ooh didn't know about the night time special! I don't really like chips, just the fish but like to pinch one or two so might try it!

The very very very best chippy in S10 is Broomheads, it beats the Admiral hands down.

Brooheads always looks empty when I go past (on way to Admiral) so assume fish hangs around drying out in those glass oven things. Had chips from there once (tried them as they are only place which uses beef fat to fry) and cant say they tasted anything special.

Admiral always busy on Fri night so fish never hangs around long.
last night had haddock straight out the frier - fantastic.

And night time spec is £ 3
