jackthedog 26-01-2004, 15:15 Well thats a bit daft innit. Go to France if you might not be able to go to Canada.
I've never been to either, but i'd say Canada holds more interest for me. Fewer French people. (kind of)
fnkysknky 26-01-2004, 15:16 There's not even a question in my view, Canada wins hands down whichever part you plan on visiting. Absolutely amazing country plus you can go to France for only a few quid now anyway so leave that until another time.
Moon Maiden 26-01-2004, 15:16 hmmmmmmm I would go to Canada. I have no interest whatsoever in France, unless involves flooding chunnel.
Avoid the French bits of Canada. Go Canada!!

Agent Dan 26-01-2004, 16:06 South of France - hot, quiet, picturesque, great wine, unfortunatley many angry rural french people, wasps, flies and everyone speaks french...
Canada - never been but sounds fantastic!!! Supposedly a very funky place, and also much more interesting when talking about 'what i did on my holidays'... (and they speak english too)
Would you not be going to Quebec bit of Canada? so it will be french anyway.
I think you should go to France with your Dad, it will save your Mum a fortune. :D Where will you be going with your Mum if not Canada is the question?
Martin_s 26-01-2004, 16:36 As someone who lived and worked in Toronto for a year and 3 months in Montreal I can highly recommend Canada as a great place to visit...
Lots to do, plenty to see... :)
starchild 26-01-2004, 16:48 If it were me I'd stay at home...living in Canada for 9 years messed with my mind:loopy:
Try and convince your mum to take you to New York...I first went when I was 14 and needless to say I haven't been the same since (in a good way...not like above!!)
My opinion is France - fine wine and culture.
France every time for me. Don't know why but Canada has never appealed to me, perhaps it's too close to the US.
I just read something about Vancouver at the weekend - can't find the details now but something like voted "best international city" 2001, runner up 2002 & 2003. All the Canadian people I met were great, more like Europeans than Americans - a definite plus. But of course it depends on your personality a lot too. To get the best of the place I think you probably need to be outdoors oriented, enjoy staggering scenery (and not afraid of the cold!).
will be going to Quebec
any changes of mind??
It has to be Canada. It's the country I most want to visit in this world.

Yeah fine wine and culture is JUST what a YOUNG lad is looking for on a holiday:P
Go to Canada my man.... sod the french!
Visit the Canucks, bugger the Frogs.
Canada gets my vote!I spent a month in canada and three of my friends have been there for a year.
Great place and if you only get one chance then take it!
Both countries are great - just got back from a week's snowboarding in France and had a great time. France is much maligned imho - many seem to think that the French are unfriendly English haters but wherever I've been the people have been really friendly, even in Paris in the hot sweaty summer. I think it helps if you at least try to speak a bit of French mind.
Parts of the south of France is very beautiful - I remember climbing trips near Avignon in the most stunning surroundings.
That said, although I've only been to Canada once, I was *very* impressed. I went to British Columbia and the scenery is stunning, and the people extrememly welcoming and friendly. Vancouver is a fantastic city and I would move there tomorrow if I could - in fact, one of my long term goals is to live out there. Awesome city and Whistler is only 2 hours drive for snowboarding, and Squamish less than that for climbing. Then there's the legendary North Shore mountain biking, etc, etc. Not many places where you can be in a city by the sea, have access to beautiful mountains and completely unspoilt backcountry within 1/2 hour drive. Also, good clubbing, great restaurants, etc, etc.
Not sure about the east side of the country, but I've heard great things about places like Toronto. Not sure about the (rather extensive) rest of the country, but I reckon you'd find it hard to be dissapointed with the place.
My Sister married a Canadian and lives in his home City of Vancouver. I have been there 3 times and it is FANTASTIC! I know it's 4,000 Miles away from Qubec but my Bro-In-Law's Sister lives in Toronto and says Quebec is very nice and 'cool'
Canada...no question!!
Mosherchik 27-01-2004, 11:00 Would much prefer to go to Canada Mmmmm Mounties and Lumberjacks
Went to France on school trip was not impressed  apart from their lax views on underage alcohol consumption :P the beaches were mucky (much the same as here!) and it was full of French people swaggering about!
Ive got nothing against the French....its just that they can be so FRENCH you know?...
wel it looks like im off to Canada then.
*sweet eyes turned on, and high pleading voice*
MUM   can i please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please go to Canada ??
it sounds really good so you would have a good time to!!!!!
So does anyone have any bad things to say about Canada????
fireball 27-01-2004, 18:16 Canada, been here 19 year and its a luvly place well the west coast is anyway
where are you Fireball?? which city/town??
anywhere near Quebec??
fireball 27-01-2004, 18:26 Im in South British Culumbia about 400 miles from Vancouver
Thats about 4,000 miles from Quebec
I'm thinking of going to Canada and France this summer. Defiantly going to Morzine in the Alps - just for the mountain biking. And possibly to Canada for a couple of months (for more biking in Calgary/Whistler/Vancouver's North Shore - i like my biking :-)).
I'd much rather go to Canada but going for quite a while doing a rather dangerous sport on my own is a little bit dodgy in my opinion. So I'll probably end up going to France for a month or so.
Would still rather go to Canada though, just not on my own :-(
Agent Dan 28-01-2004, 14:06 Why no go on your own daevh? Best thing I ever did was go to australia on my own - you meet people surprisingly quickly, and with email being everywhere now it doesn't feel like you've even left properly!!
Ah you may have been foiled Fletch, they are most probably coming over here for a wedding. Have to wait and see when that is.
It may be Scotland for us but even we don't know yet.
Love Mum
Me and my fella are off to Canada for the first time this summer - gonna do fly-drive from Calgary, thru Rockies and over to Vancouver - cannot wait!!!
