Jumping on the idea from Wool4Brains, perhaps it's time we all owned up to the yarn purchases that were "such a good idea" in the shop and didn't turn out to be so bountiful on it's arrival home. I think mine was probably a certain boucle yarn. Now it's your turn, be brave:hihi:

...mine too, I think it was a little bit of an impulse buy on my part :)

I'll own up to some ribbon-type yarn, I saw a scarf knitted in it which looked fantastic and then I saw the yarn on sale and parted company with my cash and my common sense.

I bought 70 balls of Sirdar Indigo, it knits up like Rowan Denim in that you knit it allowing for 20% shrinkeage in the first wash. It was on sale and about to be discontinued so I HAD to stock up and anyway they were only small balls. There's nothing really wrong with it except that I know from long experience that I don't like knitting cotton and it's soul destroying knitting sleeves that go on for miles. I made a husband-sized sweatshirt that he looks great in and is still wearing but there's still a mountain of it left. Most of that is on the top shelf of the airing cupboard with the spare toilet rolls.

Once upon a time there was the pink mohair, I knitted a cardigan from it, wore it once and then pushed it right to the back of the wardrobe. Does it count as a bad purchase if I actually knitted it? There was a heathered pink dress with matching waistcoat too (stop laughing, it was the eighties). Think about how long it took to knit a below the knee length, long sleeve dress in four ply, I wore that once. There was the black and jade slit neck sweater that looked stunning in the photo and like a big sack on me, that went in the back of the wardrobe too.

I never stocked up on boucle though.

could you not undo the unworn items and re-use the wool?
Or sell on the wool?

Mine was a couple of packets of the Lidl sock wool. When I read on here about the problems, I got rid of it :(

The dress, black sack jumper and mohair cardi are long gone. They were washed, ripped, washed again or dyed and reknitted into hats for sailors (not the pink mohair because I don't think it's a look many trawlermen could carry off, that went into trim on kiddy stuff for Operation Christmas Child).
