The weathermen are forecasting the coming of the second ice age over the next few days, so why don't we have a bit of harmless fun.
Everybody get snowflake spotting and let's see who's the first in Sheffield to spot one.
No prizes given, just the satisfaction of knowing your the fastest snowflake spotter of Sheffield.
Also if your area's start struggling with the weather let everybody know.
And has anybody seen a gritting wagon yet.

Seen a grit wagon yeah but seeing as though I live next to the council yard where it's all stored then it's hardly surprising is it :)

Snowflake spotting? Isn't that racist? ;)

When I got the bus home from town last night I passed a gritter on Greenhill Parkway.

folks,
I didn't realise gritter spotting was so popular
should we organise another comp and call it spot the snowplough
or should everybody collect registration numbers off the gritters to see if we can make a full set before the bad weather is over.
Snowflake is not a racist word either as these things land on everybody whatever their ethnic origin if they don't have hats and wellies.
just kidding about the registration plates, I'm not that sad!

I REALLY, REALLY tried *NOT* to start doing this.

However, when I stopped briefly to let Fuzzy buy a paper yesterday I succumbed. I am a sad case and no mistake. If you are in anyway anally retentive do not visit the following link

Had a friend in the 70s who used to play this, much to everyone's amusement. Everyone in the pub had a rough idea of the number he was currently hunting so we used to greet him saying 'there's a 145 parked outside' or whatever the number was, and he'd fall for it everytime and go and look, just in case.

For some strange reason there was an isolated random block of snow/ice at the bottom of our drive this morning about the size of a Mars bar

...I checked this I am sad...

so either the snow round our end falls in a weird fashion or an igloo must have been blown up and we got some of the shrapnel!

Just started snowing again by London Road, just been told there's about 3 inches in Leeds.

Hope it's not coming this way, not going to make driving much fun tonight.

So i'm sat in stationary traffic on Middlewood road this morning, and a woman in a little hatchback decides she's going to takle Langsett Avenue - my candidate for the Steepest Road In Sheffield thread.

She got a few yards up the road, then started to loose traction, so she just floored it, the wheels spun and she came sliding backwards down to the bottom of the hill, and in to the junction. Unbelievably, she didnt hit anything.

No wonder the traffic situation gets so bad in the snow with idiotic driving like that. Dumbass.

Well, seemed a notable bit of snow on pavements and side streets on Friday, but thats all. We seemed to get off lightly. BORING!

Anyway, my travels on Friday with work at Derby then night out in Manchester consisted of:

07:45 Walk Bradway to Dore station
08:02 train Dore to Sheffield (ON TIME)
08:28 train Sheffield to Derby (ON TIME)
17:07 train Derby to Sheffield (20 mins late, not weather related)
18:10 train Sheffield to Manchester Picc (ON TIME)
19:12 train Manchester Picc to Deansgate (ON TIME)
00:01 Taxi Deansgate to Manchester Picc (NO PROBLEM)
00:19 train Manchester Picc to Sheffield (ON TIME)
01:30 Taxi Sheffield station to Bradway via Woodseats (NO PROBLEM)

The general thing I saw on Friday was firstly the council had made a good job of clearing the main roads, side roads were covered but passable if driving carefully, and trains not affected by snow at all (except had more passengers than normal).

Was I lucky then?
