I cannot connect to the internet for more than a few minutes with out getting disconnected.

I have reformatted my hard drive just in case there was anything hidden somewhere that was doing it.

I have also checked all my wires and connections but still keep getting disconnected.

It was fine a few days ago, then I have a few days at my girlfriends then when I come back......

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers!!

I think it's happening to virtually everyone to some degree at the minute Ghosthunter. We had been losing our connection for some time and i ended up installing a new firmware package for my router to fix the problem. We are still noticing the connection slowing down though :?

There have been a few threads recently saying similar things too.

Me too, happened to me earlier. I was on for about 5 minutes and got disconnected and it took me about 10 mins to get back on. Annoying

Hold on... my thingy keeps tripping up and hurting itself...

What could be causing it...?

Yes, that's what you lot are saying... All we know is that you're connecting to the net (how?) and that for some reason or other you can't stay connected for very long...

How about you provide a few details like:
- Type of connection (ADSL, Cable modem... name of your ISP)
- Area you're trying to connect from
- Software being used
- Site (if trying to access the web) that isn't working (or is it all of them)
- Operating system
- Anti-virus software being used
- Dates, times, etc...

Otherwise, I'm afraid you might as well be tripping your doohickey with the thingummybob by thwacking your dongle... :gag: :loopy:

i had the same problem with my speed touch use adsl modem

surprise, surprise.
my dad has the same modem, get a cheap one off the market, there much better than those crap ones that freeserve provide.
i have lost count of the reformats i have done on his computer due to said drivers becomming corrupt.

as you might know i'm not a technical man, and i did end up shouting when i called the helpline when mine wouldn't connect.

but i eventually found out that my connection speed had been increased to 2megs and the extension cable i've got couldn't handle it, so it was either fork out for a new one or get the connection speed reduced again.

it works now though. just veeeery veeeery ssssllooooooowwwlllyyy.

If you suffer frequent disconnects and use either a adsl modem :gag: or a router  , try plugging the router directly into the main phone point in the house. Remove any extensions you may have running to other rooms and potentially (if its really bad) try unplugging all telephones too!

Obviously, you'll not want to work for too long with the phone unplugged, but if you have tried everything else then consider maybe the phone could be introducing noise onto the line.
