Subject* + DWB, Saturday 23.10.10 @ SAWA, Arundel Gate.
£5 entry before midnight, 10pm while late.

Subject* is a deep house night brought to you by a couple of the Cargo&Ug residents, alongside our most trusted local DJ allies and some stellar guests. Don't Walk......Boogie! is the brainchild of legendary Sheffield badman selecta Dan J, he of Scuba, Remedy and NY Sushi fame (amongst many others). The two crews have been holed-up underground below the Franco-Swiss border, smashing our respective atoms together in order to co...me up with a monster party that Mary Shelley would be proud of...

Subject* and Don't Walk....Boogie! present, in association with The Hantu Collective:

AFRONAUGHT (Bugz in the Attic)

You probably don't need us to tell you that Afronaught was a founding member of the groundbreaking Bugz in the Attic collective and an early pioneer of the West London broken beats scene. Alongside the likes of Seiji, Daz-I-Kue, Kaidi Tatham, IG Culture, Mark Force & the Restless Soul boys he helped shape a whole new genre of dance music, typically featuring a very soulful top line, under-pinned with trademark ruff beats and heavy bass. Afronaught will cite two key tunes that had a major impact on his musical direction, namely Carl Craig's "Bug in a Bassbin" and Masters at Work's "Nervous Track".....two records that led him down the path towards what could only be described at the time as "House, but not house".

As the Bugz sound developed, a wide variety of influences could be heard in the music, ranging from Fela Kuti rhythms and Latino percussion, through to US garage, Jamaican soundsystems and 80's electro-boogie; sounds that were put through the Bugz' unique filter and crafted into a string of earth-shattering singles and remixes, culminating in 2006's massive "Back in the Dog House" album. Fans, critics and record labels couldn't get enough of their sound and you can find the cream of their remix work neatly gathered on the two 'Got the Bug' compilations, featuring re-rubs of the likes of Amy Winehouse, Soul II Soul, Macy Gray, 4Hero, Basement Jaxx and Sheffield's own Roisin Murphy.

That said, Afronaught is an amazing DJ and producer in his own right, with releases and remixes on labels including Ubiquity, Compost, Papa, Far Out, 4Hero's 2000Black, Jazzanova's Sonar Kollektiv and of course Bugz' own Bitasweet. Also a founding father of London's super-cool CO-OP club night, his DJ appearances span as far afield Melbourne, Vienna, Tokyo, Berlin, Hong Kong, Detroit, Paris and Ibiza; needless to say we're absolutely over the moon that he's touching down in our city and we hope the good folks of Sheffield will turn out in force to show some love for yet another world class artist down at SAWA.

Support comes from the Subject* and DWB DJs over two floors of funk and good times. Our good friends at The Hantu Collective will be supplying the garms and their breakdance crew will no doubt be throwing some shapes to add to the party atmosphere.

This ****'s about to get heavy!
