I am not sure i am posting in the right section but just wondered if anyone could let me know of their experiences of depo provera.

I have had 2 injections of depo, shortly after having my first injection i noticed i started gaining weight, despite eating same as i always have done. I was really unhappy so started jogging at least 4 times a week, for an hour, however this did not shift any weight and i couldnt even maintain my weight after the second injection. Usually as soon as i start a jogging routine the weight drops off me, not now!

So i have finished the Depo and gone back on my old form of contraception. What i would like to know is if you suffered the same side effects how long did it take you to get back to your normal self? I have also had eratic mood swings, and felt quite depressed at times, just wondering when this will wear off also. No good asking doctors, need peoples real experiences.

Hi, Sorry I don't have any personal experience. I've heard loads of people have problems with it though. You could try taking a natural supplement called Vitex Agnus Castus. It is a wonder berry that helps balance female hormones, so would help your body get itself in line.

Double check that you can use it with your pill though, I can't see any problem but I don't take the pill or know what you are on so it is always worth checking.

I'm not a fan of any of the 'medium term' hormone contraception after seeing varoius freinds try things out and being unhappy with the side effects. A least if a pill does not suit, you can stop taking it right away.

One of my freinds suffered bad moods/ depression with the depo injection but it cleared quite quickly once she stopped having it. I'm sure you will be back to your normal self soon!

I had the implant and it didn't agree with me - I was on all the time so after 7 months I gave it up as a bad job.

I swapped to the depo and haven't looked back!! It's amazing!! my periods have stopped completely and it hasn't made me gain weight. I avoided depo for years for fear I would put pile the weight on but I would thoroughly recommend it!

I was on the depo for several years, it really suited me and I had very little side effects.
in fact I would love to go back on it now just to sort my periods out but can`t as I`ve been sterilised.

I had depo back in 1998 for about 2 years. Yes it did make me gain weight - about a stone, but it also totally halted my libido so was counter-productive in that way! Pleased to say once off it, periods returned after about 6 months and so did the libido. I then opted to be sterilised so don't need to worry any more! I would say speak to your FP clinic and try is for a year and come off it if you are not happy. You will return to normal and at least it's a reliable method of contraception.
