I'm completely c**p when it comes to cars so just wanting anyones ideas on why my exhaust on a 95 fiesta is so low down in the middle.
I've been on my hands and knees having a look underneath the car to see if anythings fallen off or bent but cant see anything.
Anyone got any ideas what could have caused it and whether it'll cost much to fix??

Thanks

The pipe may not be bent, but the silencer box may be on it's way south by slowly separating from the pipe at a rusted weld.

Thing is, I only had the full exhaust replaced in April to pass mot so shouldnt be rusting already

Hi there;
We had a '94 fiesta, and getting a new rear box is pretty cheap, about £20 then maybe a tenner fitting and VAT, if it's a new middle section you need then it's a bit pricier, about £60 ish quid plus fitting.
I'd advise you to get it seen to though, we ignored ours and it ended up falling off whilst we were driving, fortunately we were going slow around a corner at the time or it could have been a bit dangerous!
pm me if you want to know a decent mechanic.

Faulty manufacture maybe. Wrong kit for your car?

Are all pipes joining the boxes coming away in a straight line.

God knows. like I said, I know the foggiest. I'll probably end up taking it into a garage to look at. Bet its not gonna be free though

Could just be a clamp or a rubber that has come loose, easy to fix. If it is just hanging low and not scraping it is unlikely to be a problem with the exhaust parts themselves.

It only scrapes going over speedbumps, not actually scrpaing the road when driving on flat.

Anyone got any suggestions of where to take it in north Sheffield?

Southey Green Garage on Southey Green Rd - opposite the CO-OP - is a good and fair place to take it. Very honest in my opinion.

as snook says its probably a rubber holding brackett that has come off 5 mins job but you will need some car ramps to get to to do it yourself:thumbsup:

Hawleys Tyres on Holme Lane (sounds like a holding rubber may not have got replaced by when the new exhaust was fitted).

As above, simple job if it is this:thumbsup:.

Probably just one of the U-shaped clamps that has come off, they are dead easy to fit and as a stop gap measure you could fasion something out of a wire coat hanger.
However DO NOT, I repeat do not go under the car if it is supported by a jack, the car either needs to be on a ramp or supported with an axle stand. Jacks even hydraulic jacks can fail and having a car on your chest ill definitely put a cramp in your day.

Might be the clamp. The exaust on one of our cars recently c*cked up when it split due to rust, driving through broomhill, made a sound like a boy racer, seriously deep but funny, because my mum didnt dare push down on the accelerator too hard :D

take it back to who fitted it. most exhausts have a 12month warranty & exhaust fitters won't charge you just for checking.

Doesnt sound like anything too bad, more than likely just a holding bracket that has come loose.

EDIT: I really should read all the posts 1st, as about 5 million people have already suggested this.
