View Full Version : Which is the best or worst McDonalds in Sheffield?
bulldog D 25-01-2004, 16:16 Why is it that the formula food served up in these places varies so much and so do the size of the portions and has anybody actually had something that resembles it's photograph?
So I don't come across as totally biased the one on Greenland Road is usually quite good at serving up hot burgers, crispy fries and decent coffee but some of the others are woeful.
what yer think?
No such thing as a good one, they are all trash
segasonic 25-01-2004, 16:24 Agreed, but I get periods of Chicken McNugget™ addiction. Bloody MSG.
I'd say the drive through on Archer road is one of the worst.
Went through once - ordered food from drive through bit. Not ready so got told to park up. Waited 20 minutes - no sign of food arriving. Went to complain and had to wait 5 minutes before speaking to someone. Finally asked to speak to the manager who said 'sorry we've had a bit of a run on'. In the end was there for 35 minutes before finally getting food.
The manager just wouldn't have it that I had been waiting that long even though the time was clearly printed on the ticket - he said 'the clock must be wrong on the till'.
Wrote to McDonalds about the incident who promptly sent me a load of free vouchers....
Even now they are still useless.
I like the one on Greenland Road. On the times I've been I've never had to queue and it's never been busy.

Well, try and avoid eating anything with lettuce on at the Granville Road one - Xmas Eve two years ago I had come from Doncaster after finishing work to meet my fiance. He'd been on his works xmas do so was a little worse for wear and ravenous, so we stopped in there for something to eat.
We both ordered Big Macs and he was wolfing his fries down, then picked up his burger. I saw something really weird and took it off him to have a closer look. In the top layer of lettuce was a caterpillar. Not one of those little tiny ones, but a big fat green caterpillar. I brought up what I'd already eaten, while he started causing a scene. Due to him being quite drunk and shouting at the staff in there, I hastily accepted a refund and we left with me stopping now and then to spew.
We later realised what a mistake that was - we should have kept the burger to take photographs or reported them to their head office. He did say he was going to write a letter to them and The Sheffield Star, but as we were in the process of buying a house at the time it kind of got forgotten about!
bulldog D 25-01-2004, 18:56 Crikey! angel b,
I'm amazed you didn't get charged extra for the caterpillar!
Nowt wrong with eating a caterpillar, its full of protein.
The worst McDonald's IMO is the one at the back of Morrisons on Penistone Road.
It's too small for a start.
Best one would have to be.... possibly the one on the retail park at Attercliffe, that or the Queens Road one.
My vote for the worst goes to the one on fargate/west street. I've never had anything that is even remotely warm. it's always cold and nasty
Sheffield20 25-01-2004, 19:40 Interesting article in today's Independent about McDonald's...

bassman-x 25-01-2004, 21:48 good article.

I have to say I do not have a problem with the fact that McDonalds is a global giant - if they have built up a big business over the years fair play.
What I do have a problem with is the fact they churn out inedible cack..... (in my opinion)
the maccie d's on the moor is quite simply the most shocking maccie ds ive ever eaten in. the food is always left too long onthe grills......and the place is filthy !!!
and i like maccie d's.
nourishing.....:loopy:

karandak 26-01-2004, 20:01 I think McDonalds is the worst fast food around! It alright to eat at the time generally, but doesnt fill u for long! Ive been put off mcd's milkshakes for a long time, due to the last two i had last yr or year before being absolutely vile!! I used to love them aswell! hehe
KFC wins hands down!
jayjay03 26-01-2004, 20:31 The Mcdonalds at Drakehouse has to be the worst by a country mile.
I have been three times to the drive through and one of the times I had to wait 20 minutes because they had forgotten my order and thought I had left, even though I was sat parked in one of the grill bays. Another time, they had run out of all drinks (at 4-30 in the afternoon), so I had to have a Mcflurry instead of the Coke I had ordered. The third time things were ok (thank god).
Ironically enough, a friend of mine who was a manager at the one at Woodhall Services (Northbound on the M1), used to say that he refused staff from that one if they ever were short staffed due to the incompetence of the people who worked there.
why oh why has maccie ds got such a bad rep now, when we were kids the highlite of our week was mummy taking us to maccie ds for din dins.
:D
have we just grown up????

Agreed. I'm really not a big fan of McDs, but I went in the one at Drakehouse once and vowed never to return. The service there was appalling!
FunKyBaBe 27-01-2004, 23:23 I think all McD in Sheffield n everywhere are just as bad. But heck, I love their happy meal. Cheer up any bad day. :D
Daveyboy 29-01-2004, 16:47 humm i agree that happy meals are good as long as it's not one of those bloody disney toys !!!
the only food they do that is any good is the sausage and egg mc muffin thats when the one on the moor dosent burn the muffin
hot choc's quite good though :-)
Mosherchik 29-01-2004, 19:03 The one in Crystal Peaks is normally ok...altho it has to be said I try to avoid Maccy Ds at all costs unless its been a long shift at work and its just convenient to get a burger at Queens Rd one, but having read the post about the catapillar Im a bit put off visiting that one in future...
altho there have been reports of worse substances found in Maccy Ds, esp in the mayonnaise at the Moor branch :o
Much prefer KFC for my fast food pleasures, but Greggs does some wicked sarnies! :P

sigh!
Fast food nation is about the american McD's, which might I add shares none of whats in the book with the UK.
Doctor, get the shears! we've got another sheep :loopy: It is however true of the american McD's which ive tried and thought tasted a little weird.
Anyway, back OT.
Best McD's = Drakehouse or High Street
Worst = One at Darnall
jessycar 29-01-2004, 21:26 My other half always has a 1/4 pounder without pickle and the number of times they leave it one or just remove it from one that's already been cooked tsk

Read fast food nation:
Most of their target audience can't read.
Phanerothyme 30-01-2004, 14:41 your macdonald burger may be the product of as many as 30 or 40 different animals (all cows probably).
McD relies on addictive mouthfeel and taste. Big vats of HVO and MSG + lots of salt and sugar and colourings.
Even in the UK they add vegetarian beef dripping flavour to the caramel coated (for colour) fries.
It's not food they're selling, it's lifestyle.
And the reason no food looks like the pics, is that they varnish it first

waxy chuff 02-02-2004, 09:34 All i can say is that, for two years, a supersized giganticus cup of strawberry "milk"shake saw me through many a sore-headed sunday. Well, that and the valium.
Mosherchik 02-02-2004, 10:43 Those milkshakes are baaaaaaaaaaaaaad! takes about and hour of solid sucking before you get a teaspoon of shake!
Almost suffocated on a milkshake once, could feel myself turning blue with the effort!
What do they put in the ruddy things?........
Polyfiller?

If you believe the urban myths, half a slab of lard....
ugh
Wilf
if you believe the truth...
its just the same as icecream but at a lower temp
Not sure in the truth of this but i've heard that seaweed ingredients are used to thicken the milkshakes and the burgers are broken down into a liquid with a chemical agent to ship more of them to the bigger stores then they are turned into the thing between the buns.
lol, i believe thats urban myth as well, well nearly ;)
www.snopes.com
Occasionally, one hears McDonald's shakes contain seaweed. That is very close to being true -- they contain carrageenan, a substance which is derived from carrageen, a type of seaweed also known as "Irish moss." Carrageenan is commonly used as a suspending agent in foods, a clarifying agent in beverages, and for controlling crystal growth in frozen products. (That last part is vital -- lacking carrageenan or a similar product in ice cream, the frozen treat would be a hard block.) Carrageenan turns up in any number of processed foods, not just McDonald's shakes.
Hmmm....
Very interesting, still don't eat there, I'm just not a fan of fast food in general although I do enjoy the odd KFC!
steelblade 03-02-2004, 08:50 Apologies in advance because this will make you feel ill.
My friend told me last night that someone she knows has caught herpes from a McChicken sandwhich.
Apparently she got a chicken sandwhich one night, ate half of it and left the other half in her kitchen. In the morning she woke up with lumps all over the inside of her mouth.
She went to the doctors where he asked her to fetch in what she had last eaten. When the chicken sandwhich was tested there was found to be FOUR different types of sperm in it.
I will never eat in that place againl.
bulldog D 04-02-2004, 13:16 Was this from an outlet in this city and how long ago Steelblade
I never was convinced they used genuine mayo on those mcchicken sandwiches!
steelblade 05-02-2004, 08:14 I think it was the one at Parkgate Rotherham and it wasn't that long ago!
I'm addicted to Maccy D's chocolate thick shakes.
I love 'em!
Their burgers aren't too bad either, especially cheeseburgers.
the fact she must have eaten it to have got the herpes, what did she bring in?
Huwj is right about the "extreme action" as well, herpes aint something commonly caught via food
It'd be quite hard to sub-in "something else" instead of mayo anyway, from what I hear (friend who works there) who said:
"it'd be an acheivement if you managed to do anything with the mayo, as they are in sealed tubes which are dispensed onto the burgers not in "vats" which people usually claim"
also, there isnt a McDonalds at parkgate  only a burger king, pizza hut and KFC :P
steelblade 06-02-2004, 10:17 I can't say if it is true or not but it is what I was told and my friend said she knew this girl.
I thought it was at Rotherham but I could be wrong.
Also they don't know if the sperm was put in the mayo at macdonalds or at the factory where the mayo is made.
I also thought it odd that the doctor suggest she bring in the food.
Well I just don't know but still it's put me off which can't be a bad thing.

well the urban myth has sucked in another one then
evil_picollo 17-02-2004, 10:35 er all of em r ****e lol same as burger king best thing 2 do is eat chinese food lol
You shouldn't be eating any of that foriegn muck anyway...full of trans-fatty acids which a) your body can't break down and b) makes you slightly larger than before.
I admit though I do sometimes crave for a BIG MAC.

Urban myth more similar here (http://www.snopes2.com/horrors/food/semen.htm) - last time I heard it it related to an Indian Restaurant (now demolished) on West Bar roundabout - allegedly the customer had sent their food back as inedible 3 times and took away a sample of the 4th meal. Allegedly 5 gentlemen had contributed to the recipe. It is very improbably that anyone would go to the considerable expense of analysing the food sample to that level of detail. At best they'd do a scan for common toxins and pathogens.
Anyway just to be on the safe side, next time you're in Macdonalds: spit, don't swallow
My son works at McDonalds part-time on his days off from college.
When he began working there (Barracks outlet) he went through quite an extensive training programme and sat a test before actually starting. To date he is regularly monitored (unknown to him) at intervals, only learning of this when he is informed of his strengths and weaknesses. The staff work on a rota, working on different areas and wash their hands at regular intervals. I am impressed by the way the management are involved working alongside staff members rather than simply assuming the role of 'overseers'.
I haven't had the misfortune to suffer any of the complaints mentioned in this thread so far and can honestly say the only thing I haven't particularly liked was trying to find a table without someone else's rubbish left on despite the bins provided. These
McD. employees are young people - give them some credit for turning up to work. We all know that working with the public is not the easiest of jobs.
Think back to the day you started in the world of work and the people, colleagues or customers who made your job a pleasant one.
is ther a best or worst? They're all pretty much of a muchness aren't they?
Junk food - I wonder why it's called that! Low nutritional value and poor value for money IMO.
Plus there are all the other issues which were subject to a long legal case between two unemployed people vs a multi-billion dollar corporation (http://www.mcspotlight.org/case/pretrial/factsheet.html)
Anyway just to be on the safe side, next time you're in Macdonalds: spit, don't swallow

The Maccy D's at the Moor is THE WORST...
Went in there a while back, 3pm on a weekday, to find the floor absolutely covered in mess and food. I actually felt sick. There were flies everywhere because of the food and no one was even attempting to clear it up. 2 staff on, both on 'GO SLOW' extreme- we gave up, as did a lot of customers, who were walking in and walking straight out. Happened to be with a friend who used to work for EHO (environmental health office). He put in a few calls, and someone somewhere got a telling off.
I complained directly and after receving no response from the branch, head office sent me many many vouchers and an apology.
Yet to use the vouchers because I am still having nightmares!
I always find that if you go in Maccy D's any time between 12 and 2 in the afternoon it takes AAAAAAGES to get served cos all the parents and brats are in for their dinners, not to mention students and other Moor shopworkers.
qazitory 30-04-2004, 15:50 I have got forgotten by the staff in the past, as I ordered one of those triple macs, and one wasn't cooked, so I had to wait for it. Half an hour later I complained and got 2 free mcfurries and my burger for nowt!!
I have been put off ANY KFC as friend worked there for three weeks, and she won't even put it on her CV it was that bad!!!

Cos theoretically it's quicker than waiting in a 12 deep queue at the sandwich shops at lunch times :loopy:
My mum used to be Manageress at Dora Websters on Middlewood Road, so I've seen how big a queue in a sandwich shop can get during the lunchtime period.

Anyways, I noticed McDs on the Moor has closed down, anyone know why?
No idea, but it will probably end up being a Gregg's, Starbucks or Subway....
It's closing due to development for the new retail quarter isn't it?

Makes sense, but you don't seem confident?!
I thought they might have lost too much custom from selling all that new-fangled healthy food.
I walked past one day last week, and it says on the notice in the window thats its closed due to the re-development of Sheffield.
Your nearest McDonalds is.......Blah blah...
lilemma22 24-01-2006, 13:46 The one in Meadowhall is by far the worst :gag: make the burgers all sloppy n horrible n the deli sarnnis r bone dry GET IT RIET!!
bjshooter 24-01-2006, 14:24 Thank god the moor one has got shut down it was absoloutly awrful, the toilets in there never get cleaned and they stunk to high heaven. All the rest are on the same level not great neither, it is quick, easy food though, can see why some people go there, but i think i will give it a miss from now on.:gag:

Yup, closed for part of the Inner City redevelopment that Sheffield has been undergoing for a while now. The development is hitting the Moor next, hence Mc Ds and Sunwin both paid off to shut up shop.
There are plans for a new restaurant to open on The Moor once development completed. Until then it looks like I have to walk a bit farther every Sunday when I need my S&E Muffin and Hashbrown before doing my radio show. Well, I suppose the extra excercise will do me good ;)
worst one for me has to be the one on the moor. Slow service, dirty and never get anything hot.
Best one is queens rd/granville road one
Makes sense, but you don't seem confident?!

It was just something I'd read on here previously, but wasn't sure how accurate the original information was! I liked the McD's on the Moor best, at least they knew how to cook the chips. There's something about the Chips at t'other one that's just horrible!
Beakerzoid 26-01-2006, 08:35 I never had problems with food at the one on the Moor, and always got fresh and never overcooked. Then again, perhaps knowing the staff having worked there for 7 years gave me a slight advantage ;)

And your proof? I think you mean the IRA, and if you do a search of the forum you'll find this topic has been covered over, and over and over.
leg_luvva 28-01-2006, 11:59 Mcdonalds is just not good, the food has always been terrible, i used to go to mcd when i was younger and there competitors were always much better we nickname mcd burgers as airburgers as when you had one you were still hungry, they had loads of bad publicity about things being in the food, like finger nails in the burgers and maggots in the fillet o fish. also just look at the shakes, can't comment now but you could never get them up the straw they were like concrete.
They are all completely sh*te. End of story.
Worst McDonald's?! Easy, Teh Fargate one IMO... Cos they overcharge for small choccy milkshake takeaways, £1.09?! WTF?! It only used to be 81p FFS!
Note to the Mods - I'm sorry for teh naughty words
worst Mcdonalds has to be the one on fargate.
indeed! but the worst of all is Hillsborough barracks, it's full of dropouts from Bradfield and Myers grove schools:rolleyes:
I was once in there when some yobs were messing about in the kids play area. An off duty police officer sent them packing with a flea in their ear, only to be rebuked by the manager. The police officer said that they had no money on them and were only there to cause a nuisance, unlike the off duty officer who had bought food for his family. The managers attitude was bizarre, the officer gathered his family and left in disgust.... I too was so incensed by the attitude of staff that I have not been into that branch since!
InvalidUser 29-01-2006, 02:55 Worst: The Moor.
Best: Stocksbridge Bypass / Farm Road isn't bad either.
I don't eat it as much as I used to as the service has declined in recent years. McDonalds don't appear to care that an increasing number of their outlets are dirty, slow and staffed by surly knuckle draggers.
They're all rubbish, they should all be replaced with Burger kings (especially the one at the top of the moor that's already closed!), that way i could go and get a Bacon Double Chee at lunch time and be back at work within the hour!
leg_luvva 05-02-2006, 06:20 They're all rubbish, they should all be replaced with Burger kings (especially the one at the top of the moor that's already closed!), that way i could go and get a Bacon Double Chee at lunch time and be back at work within the hour!
I 100% agree with that, I like burger king as well.
Plain Talker 05-02-2006, 09:50 The one in Meadowhall is by far the worst :gag: make the burgers all sloppy n horrible n the deli sarnnis r bone dry GET IT RIET!!
I have to say the one at Meadowhall gets my vote, too.
The last time I went in (which certainly was the last time I'd go there!)
I ordered a quornburger meal, which consisted of three things; the fries, the burger, and the drink. They managed to get [u]four[u/] things wrong. (no, i'm not miscounting)
I am a bit disappointed that they have stopped doing the quornburger and started doing those horrid sandwiches instead. (eeew, vile, vile, vile!) The only veggie option is the roasted vegetables, which is almost all peppers and I detest peppers.
PT
I agree with Hippy, the Archer Road one - the fries always seem to be cold there and you have to wait ages, even when no one's in, plus the last time I went, there were some dodgy youths, driving dangerously around the car park there.
Isn't asking which McDonalds is the worst a bit like asking someone if they'd prefer to have their face rubbed in this pile of excrement or that one over there?
mbikers mate 09-02-2006, 08:32 I used to like Mc'ds, but it just became more and more bland...
The chicken nuggets taste like cardboard, if you order 6, you get one dip... not enough, if you order 20 (and yes i once did) you get one dip.....? you need the dip to give it taste.
I do have to be honest though... i'm a tad partial to a sausage and egg mcmuffin, sorry but they taste alright! - and i'm sure there good for my healthy balanced diet :loopy:
Another thing, when you go through the drive through, paying particualr attention not to drive through window number 1 whilst looking at the menu boards, why do you get that stupid carrier bag full of 300 napkins and a straw, when you have only ordered onecheese burger? Are they trying to tell me something about my table manners.
COME ON RONALD GET IT SORTED OUT!!
mbikers mate 09-02-2006, 08:37 ... forgot to add.
Has anyone ever used or been invited to use window numer 2 in the drive through?
You always order at no.1 and collect at no.3 - whats window 2 for?
and people who sit and eat their meals in the waiting bays...
is the Hamburgler still at large ?? :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
They are all completely sh*te. End of story.
I have to agree. Nasty (and I'll use the term loosely) food!:gag:
jimso999 09-02-2006, 19:33 Best McDonalds? Isnt that an oxymoron?
johnbradley 14-02-2006, 21:24 best mcdonalds are closed ones!
oxymoron problem solved;)
nah i cant lie, im partial to a big mac now and then, they are all a bit grim in sheffield, dodgy yoots to smackheads in the loos, so my expectations are always comfortably low anyway!!!
best combo - big mac meal, coke, reg fries and an extra double-cheeseburger.
oh yes.
bjshooter 01-04-2006, 18:18 Changed my mind it has to be Darnell, I went today and bought a happy meal for my daughter, was quite impressed that you had a few more choices fruit instead of fries etc. My Daughter had milk instead of pop and she pulled a funny face , I had a look and the milk was all lumpy and stunk it was two days out off date. It put right off my food, they apologised and gave us a fresh one but eeeewwww.:gag: Also when we were stood looking at the menu a guy asked who was next he could see we weren't ready but still said fine then, ignorant blah blah blah and stomped of charming.
