Someone told me that they don't accept them - is this true?

if I can;t dump it there - does anyone know where I can get rid of it?

Loopy.

I've never seen them turned down, although I had cut the last one into small enough bits to fit into the car, so technically it wasn't really a sofa any more!

Try not to take it to Woodhouse, because you have to carry everything up some steps before you can throw it into the skips

If it's in reasonable condition, try a charity shop and see if they'll have it.

Somewhere like St Luke's Hospice charity shop at Crookes for instance.

Loopylou, they can't deny you if the settee is from a domestic source. The problem lies in the fact that if you can get a settee to the tip, you probably have a van. And if you turn up in a van they assume you are 'trade' and get iffy about it :loopy: getting your mobile out on the spot and say you are phoning the central office does the trick, I am told. Don't know the number, though.

The city council (streetforce???)will take it away for £29, But you have to leave it outside and it could be some time before they get to it.....
Draggle :)

Re rich's suggestion, St lukes or St Paul de' Vincents take funiture, also Oxfam at Broomhill do collections, but the settee would need to have a 'fire label' - usually found beneath the middle cushion.

You could try advertising on SF classifieds. You might not get any money but someone might want it if it's not compleatly knackered. I managed to get someone to collect my sofa and exchange it for a bottle of wine:clap:

Bit of a long shot I know but, if yoy have friends/relatives in Rotherham, their council will collect it from outside their house either back or front for only £10.00

ring 01709 823014, 823016 or 823019

We have used this service and they are very good, you ring and can pay by credit/debit card over the phone and the next day they ring back with a collection day, usually within 5/7 days.

thanks for all the offers of advice .

we are the third owners of said sofa - so it really has seen better days - and for the last 6 months, it has been the dogs bed in the garage! * I couldn't possibly try and palm this very sad article of on a new owner - trust me nobody would be this desperate,

I phoned beighton tip and they confirmed that they would take it - so should be sorting all this out very soon,

thanks again,

loopy,

* to people who think it might be cruel to keep a dog in a garage.... it is connected by a door to the kitchen, which stays open and it was the dog who chose to take up residence on the old sofa in the garage not our idea. I think he found it a nice cool place during the summer!:D

Or a man's car. I have no trouble taking a sofa to the dumpit site in the back of a mondeo. When I had a ford galaxy you could carry a 3 piece suite in the back, if you just put a sofa in you could comfortably sit or lay on it and close the doors.

Yeah, right :suspect:

Me helpless? Do I seem like the helpless sort? :suspect:

I'm just short! And slightly built, so somebody ususally offers to get the other end of whatever I'm not struggling too much with :hihi:
