sTaGeWaLkEr 20-09-2010, 17:25 Camp Kebabs
3 tbsp cooking oil
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Italian salad dressing
1 tsp garlic powder
1 lb sirloin steak cut into small cubes
Assorted vegetables (mushrooms, onions, red and green pepper)
Method:
Combine the spice and liquid ingredients in a plastic bag. Add the steak. Place in a cooler for about 3 hours. Place on skewers with veggies. Grill for 15 minutes.
sTaGeWaLkEr 20-09-2010, 17:26 Chicken & Vegetables (done in foil)
Chicken
Carrots
Potato
Onion
Butter
Seasoning
Method:
Get some heavy duty aluminium foil and place half a chicken into the centre of the foil. Use any kind of seasoning you prefer but chicken seasoning and garlic is good. Cut two carrots in half, one potato into 4 slices and a medium sized onion into four slices. Place vegetables around the chicken. Put about 3 tbsp of butter onto the vegetables with a little seasoning of your choice. Bring sides of the foil together and make 3 to 4 folds until the foil can no longer be folded. Fold the ends the same way. Place onto hot coals for 15 minutes then flip over for another 15 minutes. Check with fork to see that chicken is done. If not, put back on coals and keep checking until done. Boneless, skinless chicken works best. Serve with boiled rice.
sTaGeWaLkEr 20-09-2010, 17:27 Campfire foil fries
Spray foil liberally, and spray cut potatoes lightly. Place in centre of large piece of foil, and sprinkle preferred seasoning on top. Close and roast over fire /bbq for 45 minutes.
sTaGeWaLkEr 20-09-2010, 17:28 Foil apple cobbler.
Method:
Take sheet of foil and spray. Place several diced apples inside, and add rolled oats nuts and honey to taste. For fun, toss in some caramel or peanut butter chips. Close and roast for 20-30 minutes.
sTaGeWaLkEr 20-09-2010, 17:28 Pear and chocolate foil dessert.
Method:
Take foil, and spray liberally. Add diced pears, chocolate chips and chunks of white Baguette or Italian bread. Close and place over campfire or stove for 20 to 30 minutes.
Frolikalki 27-09-2010, 20:12 As we have a thread for campfire recipe's, I thought it would be a good idea to have one for other camp cooking recipe's - ie one pot cooking minus the bbq.
Here's one that we use regular when we are away:
One Pot Stew
1 tin corned beef - chopped into cubes
1 tin peas
1 tin carrots
1 tin spuds - best cut up
Gravy Granules
Salt and Pepper
Any other seasoning to personal taste (curry, chilli powder etc).
Open all tins, cut down in size where required. All in one pan, heat through and then add gravy granules and seasoning.
This will do 2 people easily, and amounts can be increased to make for more. Total cooking time around 10 minutes. :)
Anybody got any they would like to share?????????
Frolikalki 27-09-2010, 20:19 Here's another one that's a favourite with my lot.
Sausage and Bean Hotpot
Makes enough for 2:-
I tin chopped tomatoes
1 tin baked beans
1 small onion - medium chopped
4 Sausages (leave these out if you want a veggie option)
dried parsley to taste
salt and pepper to taste
Hendersons Relish to taste
Fry sausages and onions up first (so not technically a one pot but almost), then put to one side.
Into a large pan, put everything else and heat through. Add the onions and sausages, and serve with crusty bread.
The recipe can be doubled over and over to make for more.
Mine love this when it's been cold or windy, as it really warms you up.

Hi Frolikaki,
I've taken the liberty of merging and renaming the original thread so it can combine all recipes for campside cooking - be that BBQ or one pot cooking. That way we can put all recipes in the one place which will be an easy reference point for people looking for something tasty to cook.
Thanks for your contributions. :)
Moonbird 27-09-2010, 21:08 I wish that I didn't look in here now its making me feel hungry :D the one pot stew and the kebabs are sounding mighty nice, I might even make a fire on the back garden to try them out :hihi:
Agent Orange 28-09-2010, 12:07 I don't bother much with the preparation of food whilst I am camping. I prefer to keep things simple so I don't have to carry excessive baggage. I opt for foodstuffs that I can boil in a container/pot. Next camp, I am taking some homemade stew, I will warm it up on the stove and enjoy!!
steelhead31 01-10-2010, 09:23 If anybody is interested, I have a few ebooks/pdfs with loads of campfire recipes and stuff...

Any particular favourites?
Also, are there any flavoured vodka recipes?
 / :D
If your only going for a few days, why not cook a couple of different dishes, like a curry or a stew type thing.. Freeze them in a suitable container and then take these with you when you go. In a small bag with a couple of iceblocks to keep them cool, and hopefully they won't fully defrost till you get to your destination.!
I also take frozen sos,and bacon like this with a few eggs etc, to cook some lovey breakfasts.! Not really recipes i know..

Slight variation on this for us: Tin Stewed steak instead of the corn beef.
Dried Onions
Dried red & green peppers
& hendo's
Ours is affectionately known as Camping Fodder and we like it with Aunty Bessies frozen Yorkshire puddings.

That's even better Stagewalker, that way they are all under one banner and easier found.
Would it be possible for this thread to be a sticky??? :D

Sounds good to me :D You can chuck in whatever you fancy, as long as it comes out of a tin or a packet lol, and doesn't take too long to heat up.

I'm afraid not. Unfortunately in groups, we're only allowed a maximum of four stickies - so we have to be careful how we use them.
But if you subscribe to it, it will always be here within a couple of clicks. :)
going camping for the first time wondering what food we can take for our meals ,,, we have a two ring cooker allso got a large chuck away barbi we have booked on a big campsite with pub and restaraunt but would rather do our own cooking ...any ideas
EdnaKrabappe 10-04-2011, 10:09 As well as all the usual beans, soup and canned stuff which are easy to store, stuff like couscous and risotto are easy to cook as long as you get one of those mixes like Ainsley Harriot. Also very light to carry! You will be taking the wine anyway!
On the barbeque as well as your meat or veggie burgers, take vegetables and skewers to make kebabs and sweetcorn in foil.
Hi when we go camping I usually make a chilli before we go and freeze it. We tend to eat this on the second night with some boil in the bag rice. It de-frosts slowly and also acts as a freezer block in the bottom of the cool box. We usually also take sausage and have those with beans and bread and butter. In the past i've taken chicken already cut into pieces, onion and peppers, a jar of curry sauce and we've had that with rice too. I've made stew and warmed it up served with tinned potatoes. Then there are the pasta sauces (fresh or jars) with pasta. You can take a Bar BQ (camping or disposable) have burgers, sausages, corn on the cob, salmon etc. We've also bought a cooked chicken before from a local supermarket and had that with a salad, cous cous and crusty bread. If you go on the uk campsite website there is forum on there where this topic has been covered before and there are loads of ideas.
Hope I've been helpful!
freshoptical 13-04-2011, 12:55 When I was a nipper, well about 14, for breakfast we had smokey bacon, fried egg, sausage and tomato sandwiches all made on the calorgas one hob stove.
Never forget that.
Number Six 13-04-2011, 13:09 When I went camping first time as an adult I borrowed one of those two ring hob things.
After the first night I got bored sitting by my tent waiting for anything to cook when I could be going for a walk, so I ate all the tins of bean-based meals cold from the tin.
Saved me hours of time, a fair bit of co2 and a load of washing up.
Full English Breakfast in a tin is lovely.
poppythedog 16-04-2011, 21:53 Like has been mentioned, I take something I have already made and froze for the second night and/or some not frozen for when you get there hungry. Take some tinned stew and a pack of pancake mix, pasta in sauce to have with some bbq meat. If you can find one on ebay etc try and get a double skillet. They are like 2 frying pans that hinge together and can be used on the cooker as an oven and is handy for such as pizzas. While the bbq is lit try slitting a banana and shoving some chocolate buttons in and a bit of brandy, cook on bbq and serve with squirty cream.
