I have just returned from a rock concert held in an old converted cinema. The place holds 5100 people. It has a downstairs area without seats and the old circle/balcony retains its seats. Of course being an old cinema the seats are designed for people to be seated and to have a view of an area of wall about 10 feet above the stage, so viewing the stage when folks are seated isn't ideal.
I am 6 months pregnant but really wanted to see the band. We bought tickets for the seated area. Unfortunately as soon as the band came on stage a few folk well forward of us sprang to their feet and waved their arms in the air. Immediately all those behind were forced to do the same. We had a couple of children with us and they were unable to see a thing. I too was unable to stand for long and we soon left the venue.
Why do people feel the need to stand in the seated areas? Is it time that this was banned on safety grounds as it isn't difficult to imagine someone going over the balcony, particularly as most folk in the audience had glasses of beer etc with them?
