I think mine has to be Rick Stein(cos I love fish) and Jamie Oliver.Rick has a programme on at the moment, where he is going round France on a canal boat.He really seems to enjoy himself.Jamie Oliver hasnt been on T.V. for a while(too busy doing adverts for Sainsburys) but I love his enthusiasum, and his recipes are interesting.

Dunno about the cooking, but I could watch James Martin cooking all day!

(but if you actually want to learn anything Delia is pretty hard to beat)

I personally favour Ainsley Harricot (spot the joke surname) :hihi: Failing that I would go second best for Jamie Oliver, just to tie it into your favourite author thread, pattricia

Elizabeth David is my all-time favourite.

Because her recipes actually work! And they're fantastic.

But Delia. She's a goddess. I would marry her (if she was 40 years younger).

I love the way she does things and the way that cat walks about in the background.

But Elizabeth David is does it for me. It's not so much what she says. It's her inspirational writing that counts.

Gary Rhodes, cos he tends to just cook classic british grub without too much bells and whistles.

My wife says he is like a chimpanzee the way he always picks up food and sniffs it.

Got to be Gordon Ramsay ...... I worked in the catering industry from approx 11 years and he is what I would call a Head Chef .... call me a sadist but does it for me everytime.

I think he has sold out a bit on the ''Hells Kitchen'' thing but each to ones own. The food in his books is to die for !!

Having never tasted any of their cooking, I can't comment on which one is the best or would be my favourite. Watching someone cooking isn't one of my pastimes. If it was, then I'd watch the wife. As far as their cooking ability is concerned, compared to my missus, they might be crap.

If I was to choose a favourite based on 'entertainment' value, then it would have to be the late Fanny Craddock and her drunk pet Johnny. What a pair of nutters they were. Bet their food tasted crap though!!:gag:

Rick stein for me, like Pattricia i love fish, his cooking is quite simple and i love his enthusiasm for local produce.
Hugh fearnley-Whitingstall is another chef i like to watch, he is as mad as a box of frogs but very entertaining and not up his own jacksy like some of the celeb chefs.
His River cottage series and the boat one were great tv.
