View Full Version : Cineworld CLOSED TONIGHT!! 10/09/2010 (now re-opened)
Beakerzoid 25-06-2007, 18:39 See from Post 9 for 2010 update. Earlier posts help explain reasons for closure as similar issues arose in 2007. Thank you :)
Hi all,
Not that anyone would be foolish enough to travel in this weather, but just thought I'd fill you all in.
Cineworld at the Centertainment is closed tonight (Monday) and for some of tomorrow due to a combination of factors (mainly caused by the adverse weather, the power-cut alerts, and problems with our back-up generator/batteries).
We will be opening tomorrow, but only once we can ensure that everything will run as normal. If you are planning a journey out, phone first to see if we are open. The box office direct line is 0114 242 1237
Sorry I can't give you any confirmed time.
Antics^^ 28-06-2007, 12:36 Any news of when the cinema reopens? Was it actually flooded or is it a power problem?
Thanks
Was just wondering if cineworld was open today.
Anyone been in touch with them (i would ring but my phone is dead)
Antics^^ 28-06-2007, 15:20 Looking on the Cineworld website it say it is shut 'due to technical reasons'. With Vue & Cineworld being closed I bet the Odeon will be very busy right about now!
Tartempion 28-06-2007, 20:31 It's open now - I just rang.
haddockman 28-06-2007, 21:23 Definately open, went this evening to see a film!
Beakerzoid 28-06-2007, 22:44 Aye...we are indeed open again (been off work for past 2 days so didn't know the updates).
The reason for the closure was due to the backup emergency batteries failing to recharge. This meant that, should we be hit with a main power cut (as was a potential risk on the first part of this week) our supply would cut off. Trust me when I say that if all the lights cut off in the building it is bleeding dark (experience of stumbling along pitch black coridoors). We were advised to close as the weather conditions made the lack of backup supply a major issue. we now have an emergency generator connected (check it out around the back of the building), so are open again.
Muchas gracias!
Is the retails park open, cos my brother is going to cinema tonight and wanted a quick tea... mcdonalds hehe
Avoid like the plague!!
It's closed because the emergency lighting system is down.
Just got back in from there and the police have been called because a lot of people were, not amused shall we way.
The system won't be back up and running until tomorrow.
EDIT:
Not to be pedantic about this thread, but you might want to keep this one in the Sheffield Discussion for a bit as it gets more views over there, purely because the amount of people 'turning up' at the door tonight was quite a lot and some 'very' grumpy people.
The word would be much better passed around in the actual discussion forum I believe tonight to warn people off going.
Beakerzoid 10-09-2010, 20:58 Only just got wind of this from one of my colleagues (I am conveniently on holiday for a week and a half).
Full details are unsure at present as to cause - some of the emergency system was failing, and some of the main circuit. Until it is looked into then the cinema will have to stay shut (for same reasons as back in 2007 - handy that you resurrected the thread :) )
If I get any more word I will let you all know via here - but (as you could imagine with me being on my first day off from work) I may be a tad out of the loop.
With regards the freebie tickets - we only keep stock of so many on site. With how busy (I expect) it was tonight (with Eid business and Res Evil 3D) there would not have been enough to dish out to everyone, and it would be general chaos to control. Don't hold it against the team tonight, it is never an easy thing to reimburse one screen, let alone 20. Plus with people still trying to get in for the after 9pm shows it would have been a nightmare. Even with the extra managers and supervisors on shift today it would still have been potentially a couple of thousand people to evacuate, breaking down to a few hundred each.
Beakerzoid 10-09-2010, 21:00 note: I've merged the two threads because the same reasons for closing apply as per 2007 - just updated the title to reflect the new issue.
Beakerzoid 10-09-2010, 21:02 Just got back in from there and the police have been called because a lot of people were, not amused shall we way.
Police already had a decent presence in the area and wouldn't have required calling. As soon as they would have seen large numbers outside the cinema as the evacuation took place they would have been on the scene.
Beakerzoid 10-09-2010, 22:46 Great..so is it closed??
At present - yes. Not known what the situation will be for Saturday as of yet. If planning to go tomorrow try calling the box office first (0114 242 1237)
Glad i saw this as was planning a trip there tomorrow! (would have actually been going tonight instead if plans hadnt changed for other reasons)
grateful for any info if and when anyone knows if it'll be open :)
