The custom of giving hospital wards names of local benefactors
strikes me as flawed.
My name is Mr Ward and despite always donating to many medical good causes I feel that the powers that be will never consider my generosity befitting the name of a hospital ward.
History bears me out on this.The famous Sheffield industrialist and benefactor Thos.W.Ward was also ignored along with Dr.Wing the principal of the Sheffield Polytechnic .Yet Jessop
has a whole wing christened after him.
Despite this divine injustice I shall on visits to the Hallamshire continue to smile at suffering patients in the adjacent beds - and reluctantly but cheerfully support the tin-rattlers each flag day.
