View Full Version : Knitting for beginners
snowdrop1975 09-09-2010, 18:45 Hi, I wonder if anyone could give me any tips please, I want to start knitting and wondered what I should do as a beginner, I can just about cope with a scarf (plain), but would like to have something that shows me how to do the stitches, was thinking about a kit but unsure where to get these............any help would be appreciated........thank you x
Miss Tryphena 10-09-2010, 07:24 You can get kits at Coles, Hobbycraft or of course ebay. But I would suggest you look at the listings of groups. All the ones I've ever been to have been friendly linke-minded folk who don't mind helping each other.
Moonfire 15-09-2010, 12:44 There are also lots of videos on YouTube that can help out, magazines (Let's knit & Simply Knitting) and there is also a friendly ear at the wool baa (S11) and CraftAngels (s10) and lots of other groups that have been listed in this forum. I hope this helps :)
sophiec1979 15-09-2010, 13:22 jill at the wool baa is mine of information as are the knitting meets she hosts.
i had some great starting advice from there.
as mentioned coles/john lewis also have a knitting meet/class...but obviously due to the shop opening times, that always little inconvenient when work gets in the way.
x
I can recommend The Wool Bar lady too - I went in there last week feeling a bit of a noob, and very lost, but she was ever-so helpful and friendly.

Maybe a two coloured scarf....I think that might be if you are feeling brave, an adult jumper scarf or a baby blanket, I have yet to try a baby jumper because the wisdom that is me thought it would be easier to do a cardigan! Good luck with what you chose, if you get more stuck there is always the wool baa :)

What is the jumper like? Is it shaped - did you increase or decrease, pick up stitches, cable? (None of the above are difficult by the way so if you haven't used them don't worry). What would you like to try?
