View Full Version : Sheffield Parking Attendants
Has everyone noticed how parking attendants are now going around in cars and slapping tickets city wide.
I imagine they're boosting council coffers by a serious amount of money.
lol, as dumb as councils are, they eventually found a way to boost incomes.
What I find annoying and really get up my nose is the fact that they will park their own cars illegally, get out and then start giving all the other cars tickets !
I had an experience outside the childrens hospital. I had parked in a zone where it was okay to park until 4.30, however the appointment over-ran by 15 mins.
As I came out they had parked their car next to mine and where merrily handing out tickets.
I asked the attendent whether they were going to slap a ticket on their own car to which he simply said 'tough, go and put a complain in' !
What do you expect them to do, go and find a parking spcae then come back to give you a ticket?
I personally think is a good idea and hopefully those arrogant drivers who think its okay for them to leave their car wherever they want and cause an obstruction to other road users will start to get the message.

is that the one at the university? I walk past twice every day and without fail there is one, even two somteimes, parking attendant slapping tickets on cars at leats one of these times.
Why dont they spend all this money on making a car park for the hospital so people dont have to do this?!
Greenback 07-10-2005, 11:37 Parking 'Services', if you please... Scumbags who think nothing of blocking roads by parking illegally themselves while they mosey around giving out tickets.
I had a go at one of them for doing that (not to me) and he sadi nothing and just looked a bit sheepish. Time to put in some complaints to the council, with photographic evidence.
They were in Page Hall last night ticketing away at the illegally parked "invisible cars" on the double yellows.
I've seen them a lot down Abbeydale road ticketing cars that are making an obstruction. If it's obvious that you can't park somewhere then you can't be peeved when you get a ticket for parking there.
Greenback - they probably looked sheepish because they were trying to ignore you, scumbags is a bit harsh they are only doing a job to earn money to live!

Ok, change scumbags for hypocrites then. They must make loads of money around that hospital though, what with all those mothers panicking and leaving their back wheels touching the edge of a yellow line as they rush their injured child to casualty... I'm sure there's a real sense of job satisfaction.

Yes, because that's what the law says. Nobody is forcing then to travel by car and then park illegally.
They aren't allowed to do this and a complaint to the Council - with a registration number perhaps, might get surprising results if enough people do it.
Yeah but there are always going to be exeptions to why someone doesn't deserve a ticket. If your child was ill and you were rushing them to casualty I imagine a £30 parking fine is the last thing you'd worry about, you'd accept that as the price you'd pay to get there as quickly as you could. Or at least that's how I would see it.
The point is that you can't park there and you can't say that one person, one area or one circumstance is okay when another sin't.
Surely the point is that you shouldn't be parked there and then they wouldn't need to either.

They do seem to concentrate on that particular area though, which seems a bit off.
Anyway, I'll keep my camera phone handy in the next couple of weeks in case I catch the Parking 'Services' abandoning their cars on yellows... ooh, I feel like a right little Daily Mail reader now. :P

No, the point is that they shouldn't give fines out for an offence that they are committing themselves. It's pretty simple: find a legal space and then give out a ticket.
They wouldn't cover much space then though would they??
And meanwhile arrogant drivers would be free to clog up bus lanes and cause extra congestion for other drivers.

Why don't they find a legal parking space and then use bicycles to go on their ticketing spree?

I don't have a problem with the tickets, just the method.

Very courageous of them, :D
These people really aren't there to make money for the council - but to act as a deterrent and to penalise the arrogant, selfish, lazy morons who park illegally and irresponsibly all over the city without a care for anyone else's safety or the adverse effect it can have on the already clogged up roads.
Parking their own cars next to an offender has got to be the most efficient way for them to issue the ticket and be on their way again to find the next miscreant. Issuing the ticket isn't going to take long and if the offending car is already causing an obstruction, then the parking attendant's vehicle isn't going to add much to that obstruction is it?
I cannot understand why people go on and on about these people then go on to complain about the fact that the roads are too congested. I know parking violations aren't the root cause of the congestion and general road chaos and there aren't enough car parks, etc, etc.
Anyway, even if they are making money for the council then that is fine by me - more money for the council to spend on, well, whatever it spends money on - and at least I'm not contributing any of these extra funds. If you don't want to get nicked park somewhere legally - or get the bus!
I say give parking offenders a point on their license too - maybe that'll stop them.
And if there are any parking attendants reading can you please, please get yourselves down to any of the local schools at closing time and give tickets to all the selfish mums (and dads) who park at bus stops or zig zags when picking up their kids - it holds up traffic and is a real danger to the kids.
My problem is with getting a ticket if you park there and are obstructing etc.
What really gets me is that they do exactly the same !
Why should they park there illegally and give out parking tickets ??????
That cant be right.
I dont by the argument of deterrent, its just an excuse to fleece people to the hilt.
We've heard that argument for years with for instance petrol taxes etc.
How long do you stick with an idea that isn't doing what its claimed to be there for ?
no, if they came up with alternatives then yes you would have a point, but the fact that they stick with 'failing' idea's (for decades as far as petrol taxes are concerned) points to the cash cow mentality.

Bicycles would be a good start.

I work at the Children's Hospital.
In my experience the authorities can be lenient and I have known them waive the fine if people produce evidence that they taking their child to the hospital in an emergency.

without them the city centre would be mayem.......my mum and her mates are doing a fine job:D
You don't see many parking attendents or the police on the Wicker, in the evenings. I counted 15 cars parked on the pavement the other evening, and cars parked on the double yellow lines including the zig zags on the crossing, and not a parking attendent in sight. They seem to go for easy targets, and I'm surprised they even went to Page Hall.!!!!
I read in the local press today how pleased the council are with an experiment to start the bus lanes on Abbeydale Road 30 minutes earlier - 4pm instead of 4:30pm, and it has been made permanant as a result.
Well, this afternoon I got the 4pm bus from town, which would have been on Abbeydale Road about 4:20pm, and guess what - the bus lane was unusable as it was full to the brim with parked cars.
I don't call that successfull..... perhaps all these new traffic wardens we keep hearing about actually got out to enforce the bus lanes then that might be a bit different!
Slightly off topic does anyone know when the cameras on the tram gate in Hillsborough are going to be fitted
In town shopping last Sunday I noticed parking tickets on cars in Pinstone Street not causing an obstruction. do they think that the shops on Pinstone Sreet that are closed on a Sunday will be getting delivery's:rolleyes:
WallBuilder 08-10-2005, 12:50 I don't know how many parking attendants there are but in such a large city I would imagine they target area's where they know there are problems on a daily basis. If some-one is aware of another daily problem then they'd probably appreciate a call.
If you come along Abbeydale road particularily between Chippinghouse and CarterKnowle it is getting a bit annoying with the cars parking on the pavements, so has anyone got the telephone number?

Popular for SOME of the day then!!
cgksheff 10-10-2005, 22:38 Staff that work for Sheffield Council are paid for by you and me (if by chance you pay taxes at all).
They implement regulations that the majority of "you and me" have accepted by virtue of accepting a Ward Councillor (or two,,,,, or three) to administer regulations on our behalf.
(I know that the statement is incorrect, but you know what i mean!)
If you disagree with parking restrictions and their enforcement, you should complain in the first place to Sheffield City Council while sending a copy to your Local Councillor.
It is very easy to do so by using the Cunsul Wibsoite here:
http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/index.asp?pgid=1770
Seriously: If you want to know if Parking Services have any right to park "illegally", then call 273 6158 and ask them.
i,ve got a brill idea! lets sack all parking attendants and have a free 4 all in sheffield! Everyone can park wherever they like, whenever they like , no tickets and no questions asked!
I thought really long and hard about this(less than a second actually) and the first problem i came up with was the trivial problem of how would emergency services get thro, all the congested roads?!
not something u selfish people would actually think about until it was your house burning down, or u were dying of a heart attack and needed medical assistance!
as one bloke said 2 me ,as i politely asked him to move from the double yellow lines,"i,ts sunday! does it matter!
silly me! I completly forgot that emergency services don,t work sundays cos people don,t get ill on sundays and buildings are immune from fire on that particular day of the week!!!!!!!!!
I apologise 4 the sarcasm, but i would rather be sarcastic than selfish and stupid

So what you're saying is that this city would grind to a halt without our superhero's ?
lol, you're sounding more and more like Tony Blair and his ID card idea. First we need them because of a, then we need them because of b.
Get real!
For years traffic wardens weren't given cars, and guess what I didn't hear about any parked cars stopping ambulances.
I've heard the excuse about schools, but guess what, I dont see any traffic wardens waiting outside schools.
If the safety of children was really utmost in the councils greedy minds thats the first place you would target.
Why dont you educational dropouts catch the buses to do your evil work ?
