Hi
I get a few e-mails from possible customers from the Sheffield Uni's / college.
There e-mails always end ..................@sheffield.ac.uk
The problem is i receive the e-mail no problem and always just click reply. I send the e-mail and get a return receipt saying it's undelivered ????
I really don't understand this as im just clicking "reply" so the same e-mail address is being used???
It only happens with the above people and it's now done it with 3 different people who's address ends with .....@sheffield.ac.uk ?????????????
As anyone got a similar problem or can shed any light on how/why it happens ?
Thanks in advance
Could be some incorrectly configured email software. You can specify different From: and Reply-To: addresses, or the sheffield.ac.uk email server could be knackered.....
One possibility is that the Uni e-mail software see your messages as spam. Unlikely but might be the case.
When you get the reply saying undeliverable, does it mention whether it's a permanent error or not? Is there a numeric error code in the message?
If so, post it up and we might be able to shine a little more light on the matter.
Joe
When I was there it was always shef.ac.uk :suspect:

I think that depends on whether you're staff or student. And I've also had similar problems to the main subject matter when emailing Sheffield Hallam Uni. The only way around it was to use another email address.

sheffield.ac.uk is a valid mail domain - I.e. it has an MX record.

Can you post any details as to the non-delivery message you're receiving?
sheffield and shef .ac.uk go to the same place. They were working earlier as I mailed something to the club account.
It could be as suggested that they think your mail is spam and are bouncing it.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
Well ive sent it again tonight about 2 hours ago and i have had no return receipt..............yet
I will post again if i do get one.
Thanks again

Ah. The PIPEX hosted mail server that your mail passed through (212.67.202.126) on it's merry way to shef.ac.uk is on a public spam blacklist.
shef.ac.uk's mail server (beaver) blocks mail from any server on this blacklist.
See http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ip4r.ch?ip=212.67.202.126
Thanks very much
What can i do then to get an e-mail sent through ?

Quick fix? Use another account.
Non quick fix? Take up the issue with PIPEX, or your ISP if they are a PIPEX customer.. If they're a responsible ISP, they may take steps to get themselves removed from the BL. Don't hold your breath though.
It may be that dsbl.org's listing policy is a little unforgiving, in which case it's probably a bad idea for shef.ac.uk to use this particular BL.
