i'm tired to look for a room for few days, nobody rents it. i'm arriving on saturday 8 and i will do the next. i need your opinion:

i'll walk all the city with my bag, i'll search the poorest neighbourhood and there it must exist cheap ugly dirty pansions to stay. that exists in all the world, why not in sheffield? do you have immigrant people, like pakistan, chinese, marocco? where those people sleeps when they stay few days on the city? that will be my place.
:loopy: :P :headbang:

Quite a few pubs rent out rooms - don't know what they charge though.

Making friends with someone in a pub can often lead to the offer of a room for the night, and if you're lucky...beyond that!

How ugly and dirty do you want? Any particular requirements? Are you after bed bugs and crooked pictures on the wall?

I may be wrong - in which case: lo siento, senor - but Baldrick reminds me of a cunning character I met in a pub in Oxford.

This guy spent three quarters of an hour talking to us (rather annoyingly) in Manuel-esque Spanglish. Then, at 20 past 11, he magically snapped out of it and asked the landlord for a light in broad Mancunian and started laughing a lot. I thought the whole scene was quite funny, if slightly bewildering - but the girl I was with nearly hit him.

Which part of the city would you like to be in. It's huge. No point in us recommending somewhere in the north when you want to be in the south. The Rutland Arms in the centre of town is a pub that rents out rooms. Cheap and cheerful, plenty of contractors stay there when working in the city.

I think its a 'pension' which in France is a sort of guest house?

Baldrick
06-10-2005, 19:42
i don't know the name in englis, i thought it was "pansion". in french is pension, also in spanish and catalan. it's like a cheap hostel, usually managed for one-two people, not a lot of rooms. is not for poor people, is for people without a lot of money. i don't need all the things than an hotel offers me, i don't want it and i don't have the money to pay it. si a "pension" just offers you a bed, a little shower (maybe one in every floor) and maybe breakfast maybe not. that's all i need. does it exist on your city? or there are only hotels from 60€/night?
there's a "youth hostel", 12 miles from the city, closed 14h/day! jajajaja what a youth hostel!!!

Not entirely sure if baldrick is serious but anyway.
Did a google for hostels in sheffield but only got a list of hostels for homeless, abused etc people. Don't really think thats what he's looking for.
Baldrick i'd take go to castleton and stay in the YHA, much prettier and greener that sheffield. You can get a bus from the bus station:clap:

A panshion or panchion ( not sure of the correct spelling) is a big mixing bowl made from pottery

had a thought - is Baldrick trying to use the phrase "dirt cheap" when he's asking about dirty pensions?

Hmmmm, the rapid improvement in the english is a bit suspect :suspect:

And the 'mistakes' are all the wrong sort too :suspect:

You'll be needing the sally army (salvation army) hostel then

zenkiu for the gulliver info, too expensive for me, but zenkiu.

it's not a joke, it's my english!!!:D

the english teacher on the school was a big cow, one day she cried, we never did the homework.
3 years later i got a new teacher, another cow, but this time she was a corrupt teacher, only her friends pass exams. so, i was disappointed again.
later i discovered pulp, and i started to be interested in english language, just to translate his lyrics (ok, his poems).

and i used to talk english with non-english people on my travels, and i have to say that's fantastic speak english (bad but enough) because you can move your ass in a lot of places, breaking the borders.

so, zenkiu jarvis.

you learn't English from two cows?

Who taught you CATalan?

Baldrick
07-10-2005, 10:34
all my family speaks catalan, as well as spanish, so i learn it at home and later i studied in school. "two cows" i want to mean that they was two big women, with a very big ass and a very short mind, that got all of us really sick:gag:

looking at his earlier posts he's coming for the documentary festival so the crazy fool/wind up merchant will need to be in the town centre.

Baldrick

i don't know if your are kidding but i'll check it, zenkiu.

i'll make a class about what does it means CHEAP.

so, when you came to Barcelona you find a lot of things cheap. For instance, you can sleep for 20€, and that's cheap, isn't it?
so, i'm checking more or less the same. i mean a place where i can fell down for L12-L15, and that's all. probably the first night i will stay in a friend's home, but later i don't want to be there, 'cos i don't know them and i don't want to disturb their peacefully live. so, i'll check all the worst places on the city and if they are not cheap, i'll go to the "youth hostel", well, a kind of yout hostel, abandoned 12 miles from sheffield, closed more hours than opened.

i promise to write a review of my travel on this magnific forum. i'll stay in sheffield 10 days, until 17/10. be prepared.

I'm in Sheffield now. I spent two nights in a friend's home and now I found a place under £10 per night. When I'll arrive to Barcelona I'll write again and I'll explain where is it. Only 15 minutes walking from the center.

thats not cheap though is it? Most students pay around £55 a week for a room in priv. accomo. Or are you short term?

Hi Baldrick,

I take it from your post that English is not your first language. Therefore allow me to take the liberty of giving you a few useful English phrases which may come in very handy in your househunting:

1) Excuse me Vicar, can you direct me to the nearest brothel please.

2) I'm sorry Sir, your dog is ugly and your wife has bad teeth.

3) Excuse me Constable, I wish to commit arson in the Royal Dockyards.

4) My underpants are full of custard. I say again, my underpants are full of custard.

5) May I sleep with your daughter Madam?

I hope this proves to be of some help.

Well I'd suggest Howard Hotel right opposite the station based on what I was told by these poor IT consultants who I had to book in there years ago for meetings in Rotherham after Teesside or wherever. When they got back to the London Office they asked me to ensure next time I booked them back into St Georges. I gather the standards were very poor and clientele were undesirables ;)
