I know some views have been posted on this forum, but I want a bit more advice.

I'm off to NYC in March for 4 nights, but the reason for my stay is WrestleMania XX at MSG.

I got this on a package so some events have been organised as part of it as well.

I am busy at these events on Saturday Afternoon, and Sunday Morning (staying there Friday-Monday) and WrestleManis is Sunday Evening.

I will be on a very tight budget and as you can see not a lot of spare time.

I will be staying in the Times Sqaure area (not sure where yet thats booked by by WWE as part of package) and all the events are in the Times Square area.

Any tips where to go, shop etc, in the times I'm not busy but still keeping in the Times Sqaure area or very near.

I will also be doing the Staten Island trip on the Monday (we fly out late in the evening) we will prob have to check out of the hotel in the morning any ideas where we can store bags??

Look forward to any advice

The hotel will usually allow you to store your bags there while you're out.

Well anywhere arounf times square will be good for touristy things... lots of shops.
Central Park is fairly local as is the Empire states building (not sure about your budget tho).

Taxi's around the city are a good way of making everything fairly local to where you're staying... however subways are in expensive to get aorund too.

Sorry if this aint much help.

And the good thing about New York and other US cities is that if you need a Taxi, all you need to do is stand in the road and shout "Taxi!", unlike in this country where you ring up for one and wait in a vain hope that they'll actually turn up.

Thanks guys.:thumbsup:

I have narrowed down what we are doing I think.

Its basicly Empire State Building, Toys R Us and Virgin Megastore in Times Square, NYPD Museum thats on the Saturday as its closed Sunday and Monday, and on the Monday my brother is going to Century 21 while I go lay flowers for a lost relative at the WTC site.

We will be eating at least once at the Carnige Deli, don't know about where else.

Any recommadations on cheap places to eat that will also be memroble.

We have a spending budget for the whole weekend of $1000 that will cover food, transport (not airport transfers) and souviners both at the event and during stay.

The only bad thing is FAO Schartz toy shop is closed during refurbisdhment :mad: there LA store and website are closed as well, new look appartly.

I remember something about the old geezer mentioning Chopsticks (when they started jumping up and down on the piano).

Hi Guys and Girls

Need to know of the quickest (and cheap) way to get from west 43rd st and 8th ave (Westin hotel) to Wall Street (actully NYPD Museum) need to be there for 10 am when it opens, then need to get to NY Hilton (w 54th st and 6th ave) for 1:30pm for a signing session.

The rest of our stay we are staying around the times square area except on our last day going to century 21 and Ground zero to lay some flowers.

Look forward to the advice.

I still have my Subway map and a bus guide to those places. I think it's the red or green line (Downtown then Brooklyn bound) you want, you need the 4 and 5 trains or there's the express line, they're a lot cheaper than the taxis. NY has a multi ticket system that is used on bus and subway so that's the best option I can think of.
I can look for my maps to confirm this and will send you which you need.

Starchild may have another idea for you.

I have found my guide that has a subway map and now looking at it I think you are right, from penn street red line down to wall street.

Thanks

Is it still $1.50 a trip??

I think it was around $1.50 for a single trip but it wasn't much more for unlimited day travel, still cheaper than the taxis anyway!

When I was last in NYC public transport fares had increased from:

$1.50 Single fare -----> now $2
$4 Dayrider -----> now $7

The latter -----> ouch :o

Still a good deal though if you compare it to London.
