Right i turn my computer on at home and it loads up till the 3rd little screeny thing, then it comes up with options to start in:

-Safe mode
-" " With networking
-" " with command prompt

-Last known good configuration

-Start windows normally.

Whichever i choose it loads til the windows logo screen then immediately goes to a blue screen and says

unmountable_boot_volume

says that i should disconnect any new hardware (which there isnt any) and any new soft ware (which i havent installed any recently) and that i should press F8 to go to advanced startup options and start it in safe mode (which doesnt work either)

It happens everytime i start my computer and wont proceed any further, i'm in desperate need to get this sorted.

Does anyone have a clue, as i need to get some files off my computer that are costing me money whilst i dont have them.

Thanks for your help guys.

Try using your Windows CD, and getting into the recovery console. Then try running a CheckDisk (chkdsk). Other than that im out of ideas!

I find that most problems that are going to occur, manifest themselves at start-up, for this reason, instead of turning it off, I usually put it into stand-by...

It usually means the file system is damaged. There should be a STOP code with it as well.

Do you have an XP cd?

If you do then boot from it and choose the recovery console 'R'

You might get prompted for an administrator password - if so then enter it and press enter - you should get to a prompt similar to a DOS prompt

Then type 'chkdsk /r' and hit enter - then it's a case of waiting for it to run through the checks and repair it and answering any prompts it gives you.

Once that's done then type 'exit' and hit enter - remove the XP cd and hopefully it will boot into XP for you. If not then give us a yell and I'll tell you the other scenarios :)
