View Full Version : ER - Warning!! Contains spoilers! Jon 22-01-2004, 00:51 ER Channel 4 Wednesday 10pm  was amazing, American well made show's make ours look :P can't say on this family forum :D Abdul 22-01-2004, 07:33 I'm glad someone out there likes Amercian shows. I haven't watched any since I saw the dreadful Saved by the Bell many years ago :loopy: Lickszz 22-01-2004, 08:02 I'm not keen on American programmes either. I remember that annoying Screech (or whatever is name was) in Saved by the bell. jackthedog 22-01-2004, 08:25 Got last nights ER taped. Dont spoil it. Didn't watch ER till I broke my leg last year and ended up gettin hooked on the daytime double-bills. Oh yeah, I love Abbey too, which helps it's appeal. jackthedog 22-01-2004, 08:26 And as stated above, Screech from Saved By The Bell should be shot. Norbo 22-01-2004, 09:54 Jackthedog - watch your taped ER asap - you won't be disappointed! I've been watching ER for years now and think it's excellent. It so p*$$es on all the UK made hospital type dramas. Foxxx 22-01-2004, 12:24 Originally posted by jackthedog Got last nights ER taped. Dont spoil it. Was not dissappointed by the first two episodes. Am watching on E4 so the next episode is on tonight, can't wait. As for Abby, I have to disagree, I'm not a fan of her, I liked her at first but last series she annoyed me, Carter deserves better! I also watch Casualty but have to admit ER rocks more. jackthedog 26-01-2004, 14:42 Just got round to watching my taped episodes. Fantastic. Funke88 29-01-2004, 02:55 Originally posted by Abdul I'm glad someone out there likes American shows. That's funny, I actually prefer English shows and watch BBC America all the time. ER... give me Casualty anyday. And Third Watch.. I'd rather watch Londons Burning. The Office is huge over here too and I like Wire in the Blood. Oh and Carter deserving better? Don't worry he does ;) Later! jackthedog 29-01-2004, 09:50 One of the women on Sex and the City was watching BBC America all the time at one point, and she was obsessed with a show caled 'Jules & Mimi'. Is that a real show, because i've never heard of it here? jackthedog 29-01-2004, 09:51 And DO NOT spoil ER for us! Jon 12-02-2004, 00:18 :o Did anyone see that woman in the show tonight (11th Feb) set her self on fire in her car, powerful stuff:( jackthedog 12-02-2004, 09:11 Originally posted by Jon :o Did anyone see that woman in the show tonight (11th Feb) set her self on fire in her car, powerful stuff:( That was pretty harsh. ER always manages to pull something out of the bag that will shock it's viewers. The arm in the helicopter blade is the most shocking thing i've ever seen on TV. So unexpected, I couldnt believe it. Fantastic TV. grep 17-02-2004, 22:48 Originally posted by jackthedog That was pretty harsh. ER always manages to pull something out of the bag that will shock it's viewers. The arm in the helicopter blade is the most shocking thing i've ever seen on TV. So unexpected, I couldnt believe it. Fantastic TV. I have been a regular viewer since about the second series but sometimes their desire to shock stops me watching. I think they are overly-manipulative of viewer's emotions. I am thinking particularly of the episode where Lucy Knight was killed. I found it so upsetting and at the same was angry with them for making me feel that way. It took me a while to start watching again and still feel an occasional reluctance to do so. Should TV play with people in that way - making us care for a character and then kill them off in a distressfull manner? I suppose it sells adverts. g mojoworking 17-02-2004, 22:57 Living in a country that shows US, Aussie and UK television programming in roughly equal proportions, believe me, UK TV is by far the best in the world. US programmes look good alongside Aussie-made shows, but that's only because they (the Aussie shows) are so bad. Perhaps you don't appreciate what you've got because you're so close to it. But move away for a while and you'll soon realise that Brit TV is the best grep 28-02-2004, 13:06 Possible SPOILER!!!!! Blank space follows to protect! So did anyone see ER this week? What happened to Romano? Was he crushed or did he escape and if so where is he? Hopefully he hasn't been killed of as he has been a fun character to have around (to make up for miserable Abby). g angel_b 28-02-2004, 19:08 SPOILER!!! He's dead alright - thank god for that! Only thing is that the ginger haired doctor (can't remember his name) will continue to get away with murder, as Romano was just about to give him his marching orders! Apparently, there's even better to come later in the series. I did attempt to read some spoilers E4's ER forum, but it's mostly populated by ladies arguing over who is the best looking doctor. Kind of gets annoying after a while.... grep 28-02-2004, 20:56 SPOILER!!! Well I guess the rest of the staff will be pleased! I had thought the helicopter had landed on him but then when the firecrew lifted it at the end I couldn't make out whether there was supposed to be a body underneath. It's a pity they have got rid of such a extreme character as he did help to create tension. Also there currently seems to be a dearth of the long-term characters with Carter in Africa and Weaver relegated to a drop in role. I guess I miss the older characters from the earlier series. g angel_b 29-02-2004, 10:40 SPOILER!!! Oh, I agree entirely but Carter will be back later in the series with a big surprise (Abby won't be pleased) and Kerry bags herself quite a sad custody battle storyline.... jackthedog 04-03-2004, 08:14 Absolutely fantastic show last night The chopper finally got him! Foxxx 04-03-2004, 12:29 Spoiler! Loved it! Obviously missed his time to die when his arm got cut off and it got him this time. Who would have thought two such bizarre incidences could occur to a person! I know it's not real, but I couldn't help but wonder, what goes through your mind when you see death coming like that?! As far as I know he is def dead, TV guide said that a main character was going to die but didn't reveal which one, so it must have been him. I was annoyed when it ended though and they hadn't shown the reactions of anyone. Maybe they will in the next episode. Who here has seen the film Fame?? He was in it, he played Ralph. When he first came into ER I remember laughing to myself as it was a real contrast to see someone from fame (who sang!) in ER. Coco was also in ER too! Who's next Leeroy??!!!! angel_b 04-03-2004, 13:33 Originally posted by Foxxx Who here has seen the film Fame?? He was in it, he played Ralph. When he first came into ER I remember laughing to myself as it was a real contrast to see someone from fame (who sang!) in ER. Coco was also in ER too! Who's next Leeroy??!!!! I remember - didn't he have ginger afro-type hair do?! And who was Coco in ER? Must have missed that one! It's amazing who they do get to guest star - there was one episode a few series back that starred Alan Dale (Jim Robinson from Neighbours!) as a surfer, and also Sally Field, Kirsten Dunst, Ving Rhames, Alan Alda, Ewan McGregor, Rosemary Clooney, Don Cheadle, Julie Delphy, Martha Plimpton, Red Buttons, Thandie Newton, James Belushi, and David Schwimmer to name a few! jackthedog 04-03-2004, 17:08 The guy who played Romano was also in Robocop, as a street gang member. Pretty convincing actually, quite menacing! Sets fire to a petrol station, among other things. It was the Coco from the series not the film (the film was itene cara, don't know the actresses name in the series) and she played a social worker. She's been in it lots of times and got injured in the ER (I think it was stabbed) and ended up in a wheelchair. It was sad. She was in it a few times in the wheelchair but seems to have disappeared now. Plain Talker 13-03-2004, 12:15 Originally posted by Foxxx Who here has seen the film Fame?? Who's next Leeroy??!!!! I am very sorrry to tell you that the actor, Gene Anthony Ray, who played Leroy in Fame, will not be able to take part in the show as he died, a few months ago (November 2003) at the far-too-young-age of 41. As I understand it, he died of a stroke, brought on by complications of a longstanding AIDS/HIV infection. see here http://bookworm.typepad.com/blog/2003/11/fame_star_gene_.html So sad... boy could that bloke dance! PT Foxxx 14-03-2004, 19:46 That is sad. I knew he was ill but hadn't realised he had died :( dilwise 17-03-2004, 09:34 ER is good and has stood the test of losing longterm charismatic characters like Dr. Greene and George Clooney's character. Sorry to hear about Gene Anthoney Ray. I minutes silence in typing follows ....... Most of the American cop shows and comedies are better by being different from ours, but I still like Casualty and Holby City just because they are more like us in "real life" than the American ones. Please dont shout at me because I say real life. I am in touch with reality really.:loopy: Foxxx 25-03-2004, 07:27 Hi, I missed ER last night :( , could someone please give me a run down on what happened in it??? Plain Talker 25-03-2004, 09:04 Umm.... stuff, really.. :) here's as best as i can do to give a Precis of the plot... It was the "christmas" episode. which was a bit ironic, to be shown in the UK at the end of march. Carter came back from Africa for a visit, with his pregnant fiancee. She had a scan, which showed that they were expecting a boy. the show jumped back and forth in time, jumping from carter and the fiancee meeting, and them disliking each other a bit at first, then to their love blossoming, and the pregnancy. they had a sub plot,of a heavily pregnant refugee woman in the african hospital, who had a hubby and two kiddies with aids, and she was diagnosed as having aids, too. The husband dies. he gets incredibly angry at the feeling that he is getting nowhere, because of the lack of supplis and water. He is screamingly frustrated. the backstory to this was carter's fight to get her the anti-retroviral treatments to keep the aids infection at bay. they also struggled to get adequate supplies like antibiotics and Oxygen cylindars. Carter contacts the staff at Cook County Hospital ER, and asks them to send appropriate gifts for the children at the hospital in africa. He and teh other staff in africa make a christmas celebration, trimming the wards up for teh (mainly refugee) patients, and they distribute the gifts to teh kiddies. It's very touching. One of the "refugee-woman-with-aids"character's children dies, which is heartrending. Luca Kovacs (MMM! Goran Visnic!!!!) announces his decision to return to the african project. PT Foxxx 25-03-2004, 09:23 Thanks :) How did Abby take carter turning up with fiancee and baby on the way?? Plain Talker 25-03-2004, 18:12 Originally posted by Foxxx Thanks :) How did Abby take carter turning up with fiancee and baby on the way?? she did not throw wobblies about it. but you could see by the brilliant acting skills of Maura Tierney, (the actress who plays Abby) that she was a bit sadddened, and taken aback. Carter and the fiancee had a conversation with Abby, Carter said to A', "Are you okay? We're goig to go out for something to eat, now, would you like to join us?" Abby answered "Thanks, but I'm not that okay!" (in a sad and wry way, not nastily, BTW) can't wait till tonight, on E4, to catch the next episode. PT jackthedog 01-04-2004, 10:27 Glad to see Abby getting some credit for her performance in Nicu. Her abilities as a nurse are finally paying off for her. I love Abby:) shes ace. Andy78 02-04-2004, 00:59 Originally posted by jackthedog Glad to see Abby getting some credit for her performance in Nicu. Her abilities as a nurse are finally paying off for her. Plain Talker 02-04-2004, 08:08 Well, I think Abby is an excellent character, too, so that's two of us, at least, who agree with you..... I think the new nurse (who played velma in the scooby doo film) is developing into a good character. PT Foxxx 28-05-2004, 12:29 Did anyone watch last episode last night on E4? Ahhhhhh, cliff hangers!!! What a great episode. Plain Talker 28-05-2004, 15:25 Originally posted by Foxxx Did anyone watch last episode last night on E4? Ahhhhhh, cliff hangers!!! What a great episode. I watched it... oh, that accident at the very beginning! How gruesome! And as for the ending.... AAARRRRRGGGHHHH! We are gonna have to wait, right until the new year for the new series, to find out what happened when the screen went all "fade-to-black"! Do they survive? do they die ? who was the gunman anyway, and was it a grudge attack, or a random attack, or was he just some crazy, "Spaced out on Goofballs?" (Stamps feet impatiently) How can they do this to us!!!!! It just isn't fair! PT KazB 28-05-2004, 17:15 EEUUGGHH! I'd just sat down to my tea when ER was on last night on ER, that accident was possibly the grossest thing I've ever seen! Helped with diet thought, couldn't face food after that!! Does anybody know when it's coming back on. Missing it already!!!!!!! karandak 30-05-2004, 18:43 Oooh i luv ER, just watched the last episode, and omg, how can they leave it like that! (well obv pretty easy, makes us guaranteed viewers for the nest series ;) haha)! It always been a very good series, and this year has gone to prove that its still up there! God, everythings finishing now, gonna have to find something else to watch! Jon 29-06-2005, 01:30 ER producers are allegedly trying to convince George Clooney to return to the show. tulip 29-06-2005, 04:30 Originally posted by Lickszz I'm not keen on American programmes either. I remember that annoying Screech (or whatever is name was) in Saved by the bell. Look at where I live :( I very rarely turn the t.v on. Sometimes they show fairly old looking British programs that I'd neither seen nor heard of when I lived in England, I've only lived in this country 18 months. I had visitors from England recently and they gave me some Peter Kay dvd's. I hadn't laughed that much in ages! Cyclone 29-06-2005, 08:49 It's such a shame that Carter has left the show. Probably my favourite character for a long time now. |
