Well the British Phonographic Industry are not allowing the Joe Public anymore to buy cheap CD's over the internet.

CDWoW will now add a £2 surcharge to buyers from the UK and Ireland, explaining that the extra cost is as a result of the BPI's action.

So is it back to paying full price for CD's ??? I hope Play.com don't give into the BPI demands...

Are CD's over priced in the shops (yes) and should we have a rite to buy cd's cheap over the internet?..What do you think?

I had never even heard of CD Wow until now. A quick look at their sites shows you can buy most cd's for £7.99.

I suppose the cd's will soon be £9.99 then with the £2 surcharge, supermarket prices.

I never buy CD's from HMV or Virgin now, unless it is something specialised you can't get at the supermarket.

Well, that's stitched me up then.

I buy just about all my CD's from CD WoW. There won't be much point now, though, as you can get them at Sainsbury's for £8.99 each - which will be a pound cheaper than CD WoW.

What would happen if you stood outside a Virgin Megastore or HMV with a placard saying something like:

'why pay for over-priced CD's from high street shops ... when you can get them here (providing details) ... for almost 1/2 the price !?'

What could the shops do (apart from pay you) to make you move on ?

Clearly, something needs to be done.

Hmm... sounds like a challenge to me. I guess it will all come down to how professional the staff/manager are - they might steal your placard and chase you down the street :P

We could do a flashmob - safety in numbers ;)

I think we should start a new thread ...

"british pornographic industry - male workers needed to work with (on) gorgeous blonde porn stars"

I recon that'd be a popular thread !!!

I reckon the BPI are out of order, and are just contributing to RIP OFF BRITAIN again. Play.com should hold it's ground and fight till the end. I think they'll win, especially if we start and online petition... see how many signatures we can get and hand it to em to show they have the publics backing.

Sod the BPI!

To me the question is how can the BPI justify selling a Cd in the far east (where CD Wow were sourcing their stock) for so little that CD Wow can import it and sell it for £4-£5 less than Virgin/HMV and still make money? It's not like higher production costs come into it. If we're going to suffer the downside of globalisation we should at least get the benefits too. Big business moved it's production out of the country and now its time we start to see the same things happening to cd's as has happened to DVD players in the last couple of years. Lets get these copyright laws ripped up. Copyright was only meant to last 14 years when originally concieved. Now its 75 years after the death of someone.
