I really hope we revert back to the 4-4-2 though, 3-5-2 would be a mistake IMO. *Ryan* 05-10-2005, 12:11 Originally posted by liencam Terry Campbell for me. Too similar - they take up exactly the same positions - both would charge out for the same thing whilst Rio would hang back and sweep. In addition, Sol Campbell is THE worst distributor in football. ste031082 05-10-2005, 17:32 its got to be 4-4-2 with rio and terry with. then we would compete against anyone. im not a believer of changing tactics because of the opposition we should play the same game no matter who the opposition. craigb 05-10-2005, 20:05 Would have to be 4-4-2 with Campbell and Terry at the back. Not the biggest fan of Rio when he's playing well, but at the moment he's awful. Maybe it's his "forgetfulness" again :hihi: mikeyspikey 05-10-2005, 20:10 none of those three are fit to lace the boots of bobby moore, billy wright, duncan edwardsetc.--trouble is i suppose theyre the best of a bad bunch! daverity 05-10-2005, 20:24 Originally posted by mikeyspikey --trouble is i suppose theyre the best of a bad bunch! Any central defender worth his salt can sweep up behind his partner attacking the ball. If you're playing a 4-4-2 system it's just something that gets worked out on the pitch as the match takes place. Rio's form has been poor and he isn't worth his place. If he plays Sven is sending out all the wrong messages. Even when Rio's at his best Campbell's a better defender for me in any case, and I'm sure if you asked any top-class European striker who they would prefer to be up against out of the two they'd pick the Man Utd man every time. That's not really true. If you're going to be fair about it you can only compare players with their contemporary peers, and we've got some of the best centre-halves in the world at the moment. And that's at a time when football is infinitely more popular than it ever has been in the past. Macca 06-10-2005, 08:18 Originally posted by Greenback That's not really true. Agreed, in Terry, Campbell, Carragher and Rio we have four centre halves that would grace any team in the world. In Upson, Davenport, Dawson, King, Knight and that young lad at Newcastle(?) we have several more who could be equally good in time. Guderian 06-10-2005, 10:01 Carragher?? Ha,ha,ha. Guderian 06-10-2005, 10:04 But ask any European club who they'd sign out of Campbell and Ferdinand and you would have a categoric answer. They would not pick Sol. Macca 06-10-2005, 10:06 Originally posted by Guderian But ask any European club who they'd sign out of Campbell and Ferdinand and you would have a categoric answer. They would not pick Sol. Because of his age. Macca 06-10-2005, 10:06 Originally posted by Guderian Carragher?? Ha,ha,ha. My, what a convicing arguement!! Guderian 06-10-2005, 10:17 Mr Carragher does all the convincing for me. Remember Denmark v England? Macca 06-10-2005, 10:33 Originally posted by Guderian Mr Carragher does all the convincing for me. Remember Denmark v England? Singling out one performance where none of the players were up to scratch doesn't really make for a convincing arguement either. He's a very good centre half. Has decent pace, is a good tackler, clears with his head effectively, can marshall a defence, and has the never say die spirit that sometimes seems to be lacking in messers Ferdinand and King. He also doesn't get the credit he deserves for his on the ball ability. In the CL final he lost the full use of a leg through cramp, but still he ran on, and still he made important challenges, and got them right. I personally prefer that type of CB, one that is willing to run through brick walls for club and country, rather than lean up against them. Guderian 06-10-2005, 10:40 Fair enough - he's a good Prem player, but I think he is one rung below international standard. I recall his 2 own goals against Man Utd at Anfield once........ I recall his 2 own goals against Man Utd at Anfield once........ Me too, I was there. He was only a kid then though. He has gone on to show more talent than it was originally thought he would. Of course it helps that he know has his own position, after playing as CF, CMF, RB and LB!! tosh13 08-10-2005, 09:12 On Teletext this morning Sven said that a dropped player(defender) had a go at him for being dropped, now I assume it is Ferdinand,he has been attrocious for club & country for some time.£100.000 a week he seems to think it guarentees him a place in both club & country team,I watched him against Fulham on MOTD & he was all over the place.Campbell is a far better player, he reads the game much better & can score goals. So come on England let's show some bulldog spirit & make it a clear win today. ANGELUS 08-10-2005, 15:53 For todays game- I'd go with Terry/Campbell as they are playing the better of the 3 at the moment. In the world cup- I'd stick with Ferdinand/Terry saxon51 08-10-2005, 17:48 Originally posted by ANGELUS For todays game- I'd go with Terry/Campbell as they are playing the better of the 3 at the moment. Dire, or what?:gag: tosh13 08-10-2005, 18:22 Today's game was the worst England performance I have ever seen,I have been watching footy for over 40 yrs & this manager oop's sorry sheep is the worst motivator in the world,he only got up when Lampard scored the penalty & punched his hand Wow that must have been a top adrenalin rush for him, then he sat down for the rest of the match & what was Brooking doing standing in front of a national manager,he just loves to be in the spotlight.Well I hope & pray Holland win tonight then we are in Germany for a week unless we get a new manager. saxon51 08-10-2005, 18:43 Couldn't agree more tosh. There must be dozens of other players in the league who would have given their right feet to prove their commitment to the England cause today. Take the lower league 'stars' who played their socks off for Northern Ireland earlier for instance. Why we insist on concentrating on Premiership no-hopers year-in-year-out is beyond me. And it would help if Sven buggered off back to Sweden. The English glory boys seem to think that all they have to do is chuck on an England shirt and they'll win. Sorry lads, but 1966 apart, that has never been the case, and never will be (England are a mediocre footballing nation) as long as the selectors insist on this theory that the Premiership is the gold mine of talent. Okay, it is if you count only the foreign talent!!:loopy: tosh13 09-10-2005, 11:55 Totally agree Saxon51, I watched the NI & Wales match & thoughrly enjoyed every minute, commitment & proud to wear there national shirt,I said to my wife I just hope Englands match is half as entertaining, sadly it was a shambles & to me Crouch was the only player on the pitch with Young who showed some commiment, but Crouch was slated by the so called experts,if it had not been for his flick on there would have been no penalty. Now that England are at the WC 06 & Beckham is out of the team, watch Rooney show the true Bulldog spirit.19 Yrs Old & he is the spine of the time,it is a shame seeing that he is just a kid & the older players should hang there heads in shame. |
