jumperjohn 05-10-2005, 11:54 AM Hi,
I have been looking at a property in Catcliffe on a new development there and wondered if it is in a good place to buy, with respect to the area. The house is excellent but like everyone else I want to find out as much as possible about an area before commitment.
There were rumours that the Treeton railway station could re open, does anyone know if this is true?
Any remarks would be really appreciated.
jumperjohn 07-10-2005, 10:54 AM Thought i would reply to my own thread, not that I like talking to myself, just to get the thread back to the top of the board and hope that at least there maybe someone with a view on Catcliffe, treeton etc..
:P
I suppose no news is good news, youths, riots, alian abductions seem to miss Catcliffe....
Trishtee 07-10-2005, 03:26 PM Jumperjohn, Why not pick up a Rotherham Advertiser. Catcliffe has a Parish Council and their report on whats happening in the area are published every week. It has very close ties with Brinsworth and Treeton who also have Parish Councils reports in the same paper. If you're talking about the Blue Mans Court houses I think it's a lovely development, and so handy for Parkway and Morrisons. Good shops at Brinsworth too and a good choice of pubs and sports clubs at Brinsworth.
eddies32 07-10-2005, 03:49 PM The area is handy for the M1 and there is a big Morrisons and a Woolworths. I work near the area but I don't live there so I can't say if there are any problems. The main disadvantage is that you are a long way from the centres of entertainment and public transport is limited.
Strix 08-10-2005, 09:15 PM Welcome to the forum
Catcliffe aerial shot (http://www.multimap.com/map/photo.cgi?client=public&X=442000&Y=388500&width=700&height=400&gride=442460.425933646&gridn=388438.403980581&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&pc=&zm=0&scale=5000&out.x=4&out.y=10)
Catcliffe is a very small residential area at the moment, but has a huge supermarket (built on the brown field you can see on the map and the new houses are probably on the green field you can see above that).
Either tinternet has not yet reached this small community, or (given their proximity to Rotherham) they haven't yet discovered www.sheffieldforum.co.uk :hihi:

Yes we get a good view of Catcliffe and Treeton from Handsworth.
I would ask for advise regarding flooding issues in certain parts of Catcliffe, like the newish estate that got flooded and resulted in property damage, hence a possibly higher insurance premium. Even an old 1901 map quotes the area as liable to flooding.
Meaks 11-10-2005, 02:41 AM Catcliffe is pretty grim, although its generally quiet and easy to escape from.
Unfortunately its in the middle of nowhere.
Strix 11-10-2005, 02:42 AM And if you find you're looking at a property on higher ground, I'd ask what they built that hill out of that they put the new houses on :suspect:
And where did all that slag go to that they shipped out of Orgreave?
jumperjohn 11-10-2005, 10:12 AM Hello-thanks for your views guys.
Yes we're looking at the new development in Catcliffe, and while doing that had a drive round the village. Im not sure about it being grim( I originate from Scunthorpe, certain parts are grim, well most parts) and quiet suits me fine!
Moving from rented accom. in Sheffield centre, it will be great to escape the student 3am shouting and chucking bins about antics. Oh arn't students wonderful, how I smile when woken eary hours, sigh....*
Sheffield is getting so expensive, and the cost of moving!! Solicitors fees, stamp duty, etc.
*I understand that most students in our fine city work very hard and do not cause distress or alarm to the local populus-at 3am-outside my flat-waking me up-making me annoyed-spoiling my next day from being tired-it's just the few that spoil it for the rest of you-tar and brush etc.
Anyway, synopsis-
Catcliff-Dull but quiet, sounds great.
Oh, i checked with the environmental agency too-the house isn't on a flood plane and the home insurance is very reasable.
I must work....though for some reason I'm very tired...
Trishtee 11-10-2005, 12:23 PM Jumperjohn, You could be getting in at the right time. The opencast mining at Waverley is now finished and the whole area is to be redeveloped with new upmarket housing. The luxury housing at Treeton has lifted the identity of the area which was previously centred around the now defunct pit and you have acres of open countryside on your doorstep and in walking distance, Catcliffe Flash nature reserve, Treeton Dyke, Hail Mary Woods, Ulley Country Park, etc. And get yourself up to the Fairways at Brinsworth on a Thursday night and the Waverley on a Friday night if you like live music, free!
jumperjohn 11-10-2005, 01:38 PM Hi Trishtee-
The development sounds promising around the Catcliffe-Treeton area.
I've done some investigating (after I spotted the house) and couldn't help but get a good vibe about the place. You're also right about the countryside on the doorstep too, I think I may have made the right choice to get out the city, besides the property is so mush nicer than what we could afford in Sheffield centre and it's future proof i.e. babies
Yes it's all good.
:)
Dennis2m 02-05-2008, 08:00 PM Hi to all, I have lived in catcliffe and was born in catcliffe.
Catcliffe has changed since the mining industry was booming in the area with the orgreave plant (coal mining). Catcliffe has had it's up's and downs with floods. The council said they would never rebuild houses on the flood plains where the new houses stand now. The local council said that the company who built the houses did not have permission and the council would not be held responsible for the new houses if they flooded again after the old houses which was stood there before the new houses which got knocked down due to subsidence the old houses belonged to the local council.
I know this as my mum & dad's house was one of the houses that was knocked down & we was moved we lived on the flood planes. The floods that catcliffe has had recently is nothing compared to the old floods.
Catcliffe is a close community & we would like to keep it that way.People are friendly but we do have some people who try to spoil it for others. It's just like any other place really but it is very quiet. The older catcliffe was better than the newer version. People was alot more closer when the orgreave plant was up & running.
Don't be put off by the floods am sure somebody will have a dinghy or a rowing boat to borrow you haha. :hihi:
It might be worth noting that Catcliffe was one of the seats won by the BNP in yesterday's election.
That would certainly put me off, however nice the house is.
Meaks 03-05-2008, 12:48 AM Catcliffe is awful, especially now its full of racists. :)
property4u 07-05-2008, 12:19 AM The new development was not flooded last June, infact the residents were on the T.V. celebrating the fact that they weren't flooded.
The new development, Bluemans Way is growing and a community is forming. It is well cared for with a varied style of houses. It is good value for money, the area is rapidly being developed and has excellent llinks to the motorway network.
Meaks 07-05-2008, 12:38 AM the area is rapidly being developed and has excellent llinks to the motorway network.
But virtually no decent public transport links to Sheffield.
yorkiepudd 07-05-2008, 08:16 AM Catcliffe is pretty grim, although its generally quiet and easy to escape from.

Seconded.... bit like the line from the PSB song... "This must be the place I waited years to leave" (and I would never go back)
BIG ERN 07-05-2008, 08:02 PM I've said it once and i'l say it again Catcliffe was the flooding plain for Orgreave pit!! AND they still built on it mmmmmmm makes you wonder.
rubydazzler 07-05-2008, 08:06 PM I've got a relative living in Blue Man's Court, they weren't flooded at all. It's really nice in there, varied styles of housing and seems really quiet at night when we've visited. And there's a big supermarket and JTF, just down the road :D
doyle 11-05-2008, 12:07 AM I have sent you a private message
jdashwood 13-05-2008, 07:14 PM I have 2 rented properties in Catcliffe and my son lived there for 2 years. Neither properties were affected by the floods. We've found Catcliffe people to be very friendly and a pleasant place to live. It's handy for the road system, out of rush hour. It's a shame they didn't bring the tram there, as was mooted.
darren1979 25-06-2008, 02:51 PM it smells of turd tho!
