Anyone experience the powercut in the S8 area between about 05:00-07:15 this morning?

It sparked a few house alarms so didn't need my usual alarm call!!

I know it went off on Mount View Rd at 5.30, cause my mobile was on charge, and when the power cut it lit up and beeped, then I realised that there were about 6 different alarms going off!

It was still off when I left for work about half an hour ago.... so no hot water, no cuppa, no shower, no hairdryder..... not happy

Toyed with the idea of bringing my hair straightners into work but I don't think the boss would have been too happy!

Yep we had the power cut at our house. When our little boy realised his night light had gone off he was most upset, so we ended up in a three in a bed situation (two grown ups one toddler.)

It's funny how you take every day electrical appliances for granted.....
I felt totally lost this morning when I realised the kettle didn't work, and that I couldn't even wash my hair! (you may have noticed I'm a bit obsessed with my hair...)

And even though you know there's no power, you still try and turn the lights on!

I just stayed in bed till it came back on.

But it does show how un-prepared we are for these things.

I know, it's quite scary really. Thankfully I was awoken by my neighbour struggling to put his wheelie bin out this morning!

Imagine, no tv......:gag:;)

Least something got you up foxy, should have more power cuts if that's what it takes to get you out of bed ;)

Don't think our power went off at the top of Derbyshire Lane. The cooker and VHS clocks are right and I'm the only one who knows how to set them! :)

I think pretty much everyone in S8 experienced this today!!

My son had to be at school thismorning at 7.45pm for a trip to Grimsby - I am sooo pleased quite a few house alarms went off on the street otherwise we may not have woke up in time!!

I must invest in a new alarm clock with a back up battery...coz one day I will be caught out!! ;)

Says on the BBC that over 2000 homes in the Hemsworth and Norton area were affected!

Glad it's back on now though, I thought I would be going home to a defrosted freezer (mind you that would have saved me a job!)

I must of slept through it all, lucky me!!
We do rely on electricity so much nowadays but I am old enough to remember the powercuts in the early to mid 70's and we could be sat all evening in the dark with no television. The shops all ran out of candles, batteries and the like but as I was a scout i was prepared and had my calor gas lamp to turn to. It probably explains why I would never have an all electric house and I make sure my gas fire is in working orderand yes I've still got my calor gas light although I've not used it for a few years.

I wondered why my computer was off in the morning.
