View Full Version : What is the website address for checking hoax emails?
LoopyLou 05-10-2005, 07:26 I have tried to search for this but no luck.
I have received an email today, that's been all over differenct companies and now landed with me. I won't go into details until I know if its a hoax or not, but it makes pretty scray reading.
Hope someone can help me.

i dont think there is, a site there is one for ebay and pay pal but i'm not sure about a general one
Would this be the one http://www.snopes.com/snopes.asp
Whatever you do, DO NOT click on anything.
Can you copy and paste the contents of the e-mail on to here ~ I'm sure there are many who will be able to tell you if it's a hoax or not. If it's from a company you know, trying ringing that company to see if it has been sending out these e-mails.
I can't remember ever seeing a website that can tell you if an e-mail is a hoax or not. However, there is a lot of stuff flying around the e-waves these days which you should steer well clear of, including those asking for personal details, including your password.
I've noticed that a lot of the spam I get isn't actually addressed to me alone, but is often to several addresses with a similar name or e-mail provider.
LoopyLou 05-10-2005, 07:45 Thanks for all the replies peeps.
I continued searching, I knew the ever helpful JoeP had originaly added the webby address - so searched under his ID and found this
http://www.hoax-slayer.com/hiv-needle-hoax.html
Which confirmed that the email I received ( a very close version to the one in the link but metioning Birmingham) is indeed a hoax.
The people who create these things - are really sick sick individuals.
:loopy:
Thanks again
Loopy.
LoopyLou 05-10-2005, 07:58 I returned the mail to the sender ( a good friend of mine) to let her know it was a hoax... and she said it had come to her via a long list of people , but the legal blurb at the bottom suggests that someone in the SY police force was part of the chain!!!!
It appears our boys in blue have been duped..... does anyone know an email address for the SY Police, as I think it is rather irresponsible tobe adding weight to something like this.
Not forced to be, could just be forged to make it look "official", these chain letters and the likes are a pain in the backside. Much in the same way as spam. Unfortunatly some people seem to be rather unaware of the untruths in these emails, and so continue passing along the chain.

Hiya,
My attitude towards the Internet, having been on it for over 20 years, is that any generally dispersed warning that relies on 'Tell your friends' is 99% certain to be scare-mongering, hoaxing, nasty ********.
If I get a warning to avoid a place because someone heard a friend of a friend say that it's going to be bombed (funny how that didn't happen when the real bombings took place), a warning that mad axemen may be waiting to slay me if I use a certain pub, or a note to teh effect that if I don't forward a mail on then I'll grow green hair and my willie will fall off, then I simply despatch it to the great beyond and usually tell whoever sent it to me (nicely) to not do it again.
Glad your mind was put to rest!
Joe

I have not seen that one yet, but if I do.... I'll think of you!:D
Jimbob1989 05-10-2005, 10:12 I may be wrong but believe this once happened in France I believe. To 'show the world' ... some people stuck needles infected with HIV to the toilet seets of some public toilets, was a pretty disturbing thought. Is pretty sick if someone is using this as a way of getting their email around the world.
