At the start of this year we made a decision to really go for it on the bank holiday Saturdays rather than just putting residents on and concentrating on the Sunday. Eric Prydz at the beginning of May and the awesome Mad Decent party with Diplo , Rusko and Drop the Lime at the end of May.

August will show not let up as we welcome the simply awesome Claude VonStroke back to the Plug decks. Every now and then some artists and Plug really connect and fall in love. They love the crowd and the crowd loves them, it feels like they are playing on home turf. One of these artists who springs to mind is Kissy Sellout, the other is Claude Vonstroke.

Geoff first booked Claude (real name Barclay Crenshaw) back in 2006 for a mere £400 to play in the small earth room, boy how things have changed for the big American since then. What started as a fake name and a small booking at a friend’s birthday party has spiralled into an international DJ Career.

Claude Vonstroke does not scowl and look mean while he DJ's. He does not pretend to know everything, he’s not pretenious and he will be really nice and talk to you and your friends. He is grateful to be doing music for a living and he knows that the reason people go to parties is to have fun.

Since 2005, Claude & his dirtybird records label has carved out a niche as a premiere American label and has released over 40 EPs. VonStroke has released two artist albums as well as a Fabric mix and over 25 remixes for a wide range of commercial and underground artists from Indy rock group “The Rapture” to Detroit techno legend Kevin Saunderson.

‘Whos Afraid of Detroit’ is quite simply one of the best records ever made, for this Claude we salute you.

Claude VonStroke’s ‘Who’s Afraid of Detroit?’ was one of the biggest tracks of 2006 and the label it came out on is Dirtybird Records, the Bay Area brainchild of VonStroke and DJ/producer Justin Martin. VonStroke and Martin have been injecting avarian squelch, funk and swagger into the tech house template for just over a year now, but while VonStroke was 2006’s unofficial best newcomer, don’t be surprised if Martin doesn’t fly the coop soon too.

It might be a fresh sound, but Martin is not exactly a spring chicken. He’s actually been releasing records since 2003 – his first single was ‘The Sad Piano’ issued on Ben Watt’s London label Buzzin’ Fly. Its simplicity and groove made it a favourite of DJs along the lines of Derrick Carter, Pete Tong and Mark Farina, while Charles Webster’s classic remix of the cut even found favour with the Germans, popping up on Steve Bug’s ‘Bugnology’. Since then Martin has racked up two more twelves on Buzzin’ Fly and a couple of jacking house tracks and remixes on labels such as Classic and Freerange. He also promises an artist album in 2007.

While San Francisco might not thought be thought of as a dance hotbed, there’s always been enough going on to turn the most curious heads onto the culture. The early drum n bass scene turned Martin away from jazz and hip hop and onto the rave culture of the nineties, a short sharp shock which inspired him to take up DJing and producing. But the truth is Martin had always been musical – as a child he studied the saxophone and classical piano, a musicality which shows in both his productions and DJ sets.

Saturday 28th August really cant come quick enough down for us at Plug, why pay £150 to dance in a field when you can come to Shuffle for a mere £5….
