So everyone, its finally been annouced, NTL are to takeover Telewest.
What do people think about this?

Will it benefit people or will it have a negative affect with price increases, download limits etc?

As it was NTL with the massive debts & who had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, I'd say it was more like TW taking NTL over;).

Can't see there being any changes in their policy for a while (nor price increases) though.

Like sccsux said cant see any big changes as yet.

Most changes will be network related initally to allow transit on each others network as cost rather than billing each other.

Customer service "might" merge but that could also mean job losses, take quite a while to implement as both cable co's may not use the same internal systems.

One would expect it to create a telco / broadband provider that can take on BT and Sky to over IP TV and broadband speeds much higher than LLU speeds currently (24mbit)

Could be very hopefull and they may decide to build out further parts of the network but I can not see that happening for a very very long time.

Over all I think this will be better for the customer as offer more comp in the market place for your hard earned cash.

I cant see it meaning any changes in the short term really, but maybe in the long run, but we will have to wait and see.

Both had massive debts but TW got round theirs a little earlier than NTL, who, FTR issued more shares and realised around £800 million to pay off their debt.

Both debts came about due to the cost of laying the cable infrastructure and is also the reason no more cable areas have been added for a while.

Hopefully the merger will allow for new areas to be cabled so every one can share broadband... I think although the name Telewest may be lost Blueyonder brand name will remain.
