I hope someone can help us, this morning i found a baby squirrel out in the garden, very young with its eyes still shut, and have since found 3 more. At the mo they are in a box outside and we are hoping the mother will come and get them before the cats do, we tried the RSPCA and, as expected, as they are classed as vermin they won't do anything. We were just wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that would take them, we don't want them, although the kids want to keep them as pets, lol. Any help would be great
Aww, hope someone can help you

Technically, now they are captive it is illegal to release them back into the wild !!!!
You are supposed to either Kill them or cage them

try asking in the pets section as there a few rescue centres that might be able to help
dont start another thread just ask a mod to move this thread to pets section
In that case, can a mod please relocate this thread...

This is a rescue centre in Sheffield who know how to deal with squirrels and will be able to give you the best advice. You should make sure the babies are warm but don't give them any food/drink. The telephone numbers for the centre are - landline: 01142 557824 or mobile: 07860 808179

Ah - you got there before me Longy!! My message was :-I don't know whether the couple running that centre are still doing so but here's another number just in case. South Yorkshire Animal Rescue on South Road, Walkley - 0114 234 9656. Again, I'm not sure if this charity still survives. If all else fails and the mother doesn't retrieve them, the kindest thing to do would be to take the baby squirrels to a vet to be euthanised; I understand that vets are obliged to provide such services for wildlife free of charge. Keeping my fingers crossed for a good outcome anyway.
Thanks for all the posts, looks like its gonna be the one up walkley, chap says he can take them, but no guarantee he can keep them for long beacuse he has a lot of animals in at the mo, shame really.

Is it a red or grey squirrel? The red ones are endangered but I think the grey ones are classed as vermin.
