Some people believe that what others consider to be natural disasters as being the vengeance of the only true God. Is there such a thing as the vengeance of God and if so give examples of which God took vengeance upon whom.

View Full Version : Natural Disasters..or Gods Revenge? Harrod 19-08-2010, 17:23 Some people believe that what others consider to be natural disasters as being the vengeance of the only true God. Mecky 19-08-2010, 17:33 Since man created their own Gods to justify their actions and the world around them, there is no such thing as God. Incidently, when men were creating their Gods there wasn't much cross cultural interaction and tribes largely existed in isolation, which is why all Gods evolved differently. When people started to travel through trade and came across new cultures, their Gods diversed into other Gods, look at the Greeks/Egyptian Gods for example. So to answer your question, they are natural disasters. Harrod 19-08-2010, 17:35 Since man created their own Gods to justify their actions and the world around them, there is no such thing as God. That was an interesting viewpoint...thank you for your input. fake 19-08-2010, 17:47 I agree with Mecky in that men create their own Gods and disasters are natural. If you want to read about a vengeful and spiteful God, one that likes causing mayhem, pestilence, floods etc then just read the Bible. "God" probably doesnt exist but Haarp does for sure, and has potential (scientists think)to cause such events. Considering it is under control of US military,i think that more likely than God. EbonyBranch 19-08-2010, 21:22 Sometimes one needs to appear to be cruel to be kind!:)In the story of Job, Yhvh answers a challenge from one of his angels by afflicting a righteous man (Job) with a surfeit of misery and death to see whether his faith in a just god would survive the ordeal. Eventually, Job cries out to Yhvh in anguish, and Yhvh scolds Job for daring to question his creator and deity. The story is a rumination on the problem of evil, rather than a literal narrative of real events. Yhvh does appear to be an uncaring tyrant in his treatment of Job, killing members of his family willy-nilly, and refusing to offer any justification for his actions. I'm reading Bart Ehrmann's book 'God's Problem' at the moment, and it goes into some detail on Job. The Book of Job is an amalgamation of two different (incomplete) versions of the same story, written in distinct styles, by different authors with different views of the problem of evil.
