We are thinking of getting Freeview. Is it worth it or are all the progs old repeats?

Many of the childrens programmes are on Freeview nowadays but what other stuff can you get?

Where is the best place to get the boxes from? There seems to be one heck of a price variation for them so I was wondering if some are better than others.

All points of view welcomed, good or bad.

I got freeview from argos... £30 i think it was. I dont watch it that much and when I do its only the music channels, E4 or listening to Kerrang radio. Suppose its worth, paying just the £30, not having any bills at the end of the month and you still get your music channels, kids tv, documentries etc.

Only issue with Freeview is that because it's digital you might have to upgrade your arial to enjoy the full benefits and get everything on it.

I personally think that as a hard drive recorder for digital telly, Sky Plus > Freeview boxes but that's just my personal opinion.

As for the best place to get them, Tesco sells Freeview boxes for £30 iirc.

Well they had them in the one on Infirmary Road last time I was in there.

bought a freeview box for £40 from argos for youngest son!--within a week hed lost at least 6 channels and they were the best ones!--we received no music channels from the word go!
alot depends on area reception and signal!--when the catalogue says you get a certain ammount of channels!--dont take it literally!--it dosent always work out that way!--most of our channels are radio now!-got abc 1,cbeebies,e4,qvc,bid tv stations, parliamentary, teachers tv,community tv and very little else!

Best thing we ever did. Watch E4 all the time, and watching X-Factor tonight because it clashes with Casualty on a Saturday.

Cost me £30, though we did have to buy a special aerial, but only because we don't have a roof aerial.

If you can afford it get one of these:

FVRT200 (http://www.fusiondigitec.com/fvrt200_one.htm)

For about £180 you get freeview plus an 80gb hard drive. Record 2 progs at once while watching one you recorded earlier, rewind live tele, pause live tele, etc.

I've found it really useful. Fr'instance, tonight I'll be recording Walking the Dead and Midsomer Murders. Then, when we finish dinner, I'll start watching MS from the begining while it still records the end.

You are lucky you can get Freeview. We will not get it till 2007
but that won't stop the BBC from accepting our £126 per year.
It is annoying when they advertise all the new channels and we dont get them but pay for them

Considering it's free (other than the cost of the box), it's pretty good value for money.

There are usually plenty of films on BBC3, ITV2 and ITV3. Ok, they may not be the latest films (I think ITV2 has a fetish for showing Stallone in Cliffhanger at least once a month), but at least it's a bit of extra choice.

You also get the advantage of catching programmes you may have missed earlier in the week.

Its OK, not very exciting really. Its nice to have ITV 2 and BBC 3, and now E4.. but most of the programs are either repeats or will be shown on terrestrial tv after a while.
