I'm doing a report for my 'office job'.

Can you tell me who the major employers are in the following wards of Sheffield (and identify ward to employer, please)

Nether Shire
Firth Park
Owlerton
Southey Green.

Cheers Southey Green,all thats there is.Co-op,council office,kebab shop,mobile phone shop,chipshop,Library and a over priced garage,thats your lot

Owlerton - Swann Morton, Independent Forgings and Alloys, B&Q, Morrisons (unless they call that Hillsborough now), Jewel Blade Co (now part of Swann Morton anyway), Lily's the bakers, Cadbury Schweppes (Bassetts as was), Napoleons Casinos, Doncasters (I think!), Hillsborough Leisure Centre, Associated British Foods...

They're the main ones I can think of but there's loads of big companies down there.

God Bless Lily's the bakers... I used to live on Burrowlee Road and the trip down to Lily's on a morning for freshly baked, still warm bread cakes and tea cakes will stay with me forever...

Im not Sure if Fletchers Bakery would come under Owlerton it might be classed as Wadsley Bridge?.:confused:

Sounds to me like you are trying to get everyone else to do your job for you.
I dont have a problem with that, you should go far .

I don't know this part of town which is why I ask......and this is only an incy wincy part of a huge report I have to write, so you're not doing my whole job for me, I promise!

Is the Northern General Hospital considered to be in Firth Park? And the Concorde Leisure Centre?

Yes, I believe there are about 300 people work there.

Note that although these are employers in the area, I do not know if the employees come from that area. Rightio:

Sonofabitchfield - food store in firth park centre
Co-op - ditto
Netto - ditto (sheffield lane top)
err...Concord Sports Centre (up towards Shiregreen)

and that's probably your lot. Yes Lou - the NGH is technically in Firth Park, thanks for the reminder :blush: . By technically, I mean the Bus Driver charges you the fare to Firth Park to town even though it's just a stop up from Fir Vale.

And that really is your lot!

It's Fir Vale afaik - could be Firth Park or Page Hall either though, lol

I'd say Concord is classed as Shiregreen and the Northern General Fir Vale as it's slap bang in the middle of Fir Vale.

Is the Tesco classed as been Southey though? IMO it's nearer Longley but I'm sure the store itself is called Southey.

But IMO Norwood is Crab Tree and surrounding areas. It's the same as Norwood Medical Centre I suppose. For some reason that particular branch is called Tesco Southey.

Oh, wasn't sure where one boundary starts and the next one finishes.

I'd say the Northern General is so big, it's actually it's own area :)

Here's what mslotus wrote a couple of months ago, when I asked regarding the location of S5 areas:

As you travel along Herries road towards Hillsbro on the left is Shirecliffe and on the right is Longley but only as far as the bottom of Moonshine Lane. Sheffield Lane Top is Firth Park, and where the hospital is too, but the hospital is also bordered by Firvale.

The road along the top of the hospital is Longley Lane and that is where Longley starts. At the top of the estate it is bordered by Southey Green Road. Coming up Herries Road from the hospital on the left is Norwood.

Confused yet?I used to work as a taxi operator and S5 was a nightmare.

And I'm leaving it there!

Tescos is next to Norwood Post Office,on my card statement it says Norwood.

I'm not disputing that it isn't Norwood. It's just IMO it should be Longley and I prefer to call it that. Longley school is across the road. It is true however that the Tesco branch is referred to as Southey for some reason.
