Just moved here from Ecclesall (and love it!!!)

Anyone know what they are doing with the old BP station opposite the Peter Brooks Honda showroom?

Would like to keep my (albeit sideways!) view of the park if I can!

All the bus drivers are PRAYING that it is made into a car park, then we don't have to spend half a day trying to get thought the traffic on Chesterfield Road:D

What happens with every demolished petrol station these days - yet more appartments I'm afraid.

I know there seems to be a shortage of petrol stations in Sheffield, but they say that there is going to be more single people in the year 2010 then ever, so building some more 1 beedroom flat's is surely a good idea:confused:

I don't disagree with you there. I don't think I meant to come accross so negative sounding.

I thought I once read that it wasn't a good idea to build accomodation on top of an old petrol station?

I believe the old ESSO station opposite the Millhouses Hotel is earmarked for the same treatment.

Depends what they do with the tanks underneith.

usually they are cleaned and filled with concrete or removed totally and all the surrounding earth cleaned and/or replaced, but you cant build on them for so long while the earth settles IIRC

As long as the tanks are removed/filled then it's fine. Building new homes on the site on Woodseats though would look out of place and rather daft IMO.

Good views over the park though - and you can look out the window to see if your Honda Civic has been serviced yet :)

The old tanks have to be completely removed these days. Any contaminated ground is also taken off site to a licenced tip. No reason why it shouldn't be as safe as any other site.

Incidently, I'm told that the apartments at that site are all sold already without going on the open market. You have to keep alert to new developments if you're wanting to buy at the original release price.

Just been to look round one of the apartments, the views are great but are ruined by a block of disused toilets which are full of graffiti. If I move in there I'm quite tempted to buy a large bucket of green paint and give them a quick paint to help them blend in. Unfourtunately I feel they will be graffiti-ed again quickly as it would be seen as a nice fresh palate.
