View Full Version : 7 Kittens rescued from a barn fire
Rainrescue 14-08-2010, 11:24 There was a fire in a barn, and someone phoned my friends up who run a small rescue Friends of Felines.
She went over to help - but sadly - mummy had been burned and killed in the fire - leaving her small poor defenceless kittens running amock with nobody to care for them.
This little rescue runs on a shoe string by 2 lovely ladies, who have devoted their lives to helping cats and kittens. They are over burdened with them and can't cope with so many.
We managed to get 4 kittens into a rescue for them earlier in the week - and now they have got 7 more
There are 4 gingers, 2 tabby's and 1 black
If anyone can make a donation towards the food and litter for these kittens, they can do it via us, or if you pm me i will give you their address to post a cheque off for them.
Please pass on - these kittens will soon be ready for new homes - they are just 4 weeks old
Pics of just 3 of them here - more to follow soon

There is a post few items down that explains about their eyes x
I hope they all find loving homes.
Rainrescue 14-08-2010, 20:39 The two ladies that run the rescue - both with loads of cats in already - have got half of them between them now.
I'm sure if a good foster home came up - they would appreciate it.
They are at Mexborough - so we just need to be advertising and promoting to find them good homes when they are ready to go.
Thanks for all offers and the donations so far everyone.
We have had an AMAZING £60.00 donated so far - that is brilliant - I will tell them and will send this off to their vets straight away for them as well as buying them some litter and kitten food.
Thank you sf members so much
spiritangel1 15-08-2010, 13:09 ive put on my facebook and will try to get a whip round xx

What a good idea! As I'm not very technical (!) I've just put the link to this page.
Rainrescue 15-08-2010, 15:00 We are now looking for experienced cat foster homes for these kittens. They will go in pairs - they ARE STILL FERRAL - ie still pretty wild and haven't met people before this experience.
So - any cat / kitten experienced people able to foster 2 kittens?
They will need to be crated - handled regularly and not let to mix and mingle with your own cats until they come round more.
Once at a rehomeable stage - it would mean you meeting prospective new owners, and following the guidelines for rehoming them. All homes will be checked, and the kittens will have to be neutered when recommended to do so.
Anyone able to help them?
Will they be needing to be hand fed?
I've set them up a Facebook group so people can join and post to their walls, which should help spread the word....

Rainrescue 15-08-2010, 21:30 Nope - don't think so
They are 4 weeks old and will be pretty independant now.
The hard part is being cat savvy, and getting them out of their cage and handling them lots and lots. At the moment they are very timid - but with handling - they will come round
thanks for the fb page

Ah, I'd love to foster some but I'm probably not cat savvy enough then :( We've fostered once before for a few months but that was for a friend of a friend.
Rainrescue 15-08-2010, 21:51 Its how you think you can cope - as long as you are aware - the ladies will talk you through all there is to do. Why do you think you could take a couple on for a month or so?
Zebra has offered to foster these little souls, thank you. Any other offers please?
Rainrescue 15-08-2010, 22:34 How many can Zebra foster Magsie?
See other post, that the other lady has now got her hands full and so can't do.
Hope soe people can help
Could anyone do an appeal in the Star? We did have a group starting up that was going to do newspaper appeals - but it died a death.
Anyone want to resurect it and start of with fosterer/donation appeal for these?
With kits being feral, I would think one or two would be the ideal to give them the attention they deserve to bring them round. I will ask Zebra to update the forum once she has spoken to the rescue ladies.
Feral kits of this age can be brought round within a few weeks if they are crated and given plenty of patience, and attention.
Rainrescue 16-08-2010, 19:46 The kits are certainly coming out of their shell. They have been to see the vet today - who's given them a clean bill of health and wormed and flead them. Says they are slightly underweight but will soon put that on being cared for by Friend of Felines.
In fact, she has just phoned me to say a lovely lady has seen their picture on the rain rescue website, and is going over to see them. Good luck little ones.
Keep spreading the word - fosterers needed to add to their social interaction please?
Rain, are we at liberty to give out the number of Friend of Felines. I have another interested person in the kits x
Rainrescue 16-08-2010, 20:09 yep its on my site
good one
I think I could cope with a couple - I certainly have the time and patience to put into them, just so long as I'm told what to do and what to feed them etc. etc.
I'd need to borrow a crate from somewhere though as I don't have one and not got much cash at the moment. Let me know if you want us to foster. How many have you got foster homes for so far?
Also - a friend of mine suggested setting up a JustGiving site for the appeal to make donating easier for people - would that be possible or do you have to pay to set one up?
Rainrescue 16-08-2010, 22:24 Ok -
Friends of Felines will give you all the help and support you need. they are lovely ladies, and well used to cats. The kits will be fine- just so long as you treat them with respect and go slowly.
We have a crate you can borrow if they dont - so thats sorted fine -
Give ruth a call - i will pm you her number. Now they have passed the vet, these kits need socialising.
Re just giving site
Yes - it does cost and its expensive. its £15.00 + vat per month - so about £17.00 per month. However, PETMEDS have been fantastic with rainrescue and have just done the 3 peaks challenge with 6 of their staff members, and so we all set up a JustGiving site for them to do it.
Donations can be made to RainRescue, if someone wanted to set up a justgving page for this cause, that would be FANTABIDOZI.
lets get going
company giving is one of the best ways of raising money - we just need to reach into the companies to do it.
thanks everyone

Rainrescue 26-08-2010, 15:30 I have just updated the other thread where the Friends of Felines ladies are appealing for help for these kittens.
Thank you to the Sheffield Forum lady who is fostering 2 of the kittens and doing a great job.
Homes soon needed for these little ones if anyone knows of a good home wanting a kitten - please get in touch.
thanks everyone
