I keep finding little bugs in my house, I've finally identified them as carpet beetles (the larval stage - which is the nasty, eat everything stage)

Anyone know anything I can do about it?

I don't have any carpets (a few rugs but thats it) so I'm guessing the little blighters are scoffing other things, namely my clothes!

:help: :help: :help:

grr..I'm all itchy now :(

*runs off to vacuum everything in sight*

These are called Domestes beetles. The larva are destructive little so and so's. The beetles spread like wildfire. They are also called furry jumpers for some reason.

You can try lanything and everything to get rid but they still manage to infest once they have found a way into your home.

They start by eating bits under the cooker and around the fridge and such, but spread everywhere.

The only way to really get rid is to call in a pest exterminator. The council used to do the job. Dunno if they still do.

DIY does not work unless you have some excellent bug spray which is expensive.

Call the council or an exterminator or you will never get rid.

We tried alsorts. Dermestes beetles? Cannot recall the spelling.

Just when you think you have sorted them - the little sobs reappear. They infest everything. Worse than ants.

Call the council.

I guess I might need to find the place of infestation first, I know they are upstairs as thats the only place i find them (all rooms) but thats as near as i've got.

My biggest problem is I have a lot of junk (which I'm getting rid of slowly), but my masters dissertation is due in 2 weeks and thats taking priority over it all at the mo, so clearing the junk so that a pest controller can get in and work successfully is a bit off at the mo!
or can they work through junk?

ohhh bl**dy hell why now???

ahh yes and they are wooly/furry jumpers because they look like they are furry!!!

To protect clothes and documents that you're sure aren't already infested, can I recommend that you get some vacuum storage bags and store them in a vacuum?

My wedding dress (in its bag) got dropped in a flood that resulted from a blocked sewer (yyeeuucchhh!) but it was dunked shortly after in a bucket of disinfectant and scrubbed with a yard brush. Nothing broke the seal on the bag, the contents are just fine. Protects against mildew and all sorts of nasties.

In fact, even if there are one or two nasties in there, unless they're anaerobic bacteria they won't survive in there if you create a good enough anyway.

thanks :)

sadly at the mo I can barely afford to eat, so that might have to wait til I get some money coming in.

I've emailled the council to see if they can help.

I can't be convinced that anything ISN'T infested at the mo, and going thru the whole house full of stuff is going to take me some time (anyone want to help??)

I just hate having to leave it even longer (with them munching away at my stuff) while i finish uni etc... grrr...

anyway, off to bed with me (if i can sleep thru the itchyness!!!!!)

Well, i've been prioritising the dissertation, but inbetween the writing bits i've been working my way through the house...

Most of the little bu**ers have died a death in a bath of bleach, the rest got stamped on! well those that we have found so far anyway!! :suspect:

Sadly they got to my best woollen coat and it now has numerous bald patches, its going off to the drycleaners if its salvagable.. not quite decided yet!

I have another room and a half to go through yet, and my lovely mum is coming round to help this afternoon (once i've done more writing!!!)

oh and I've had to email the council AGAIN as they are refusing to answer their phones!!! grr!!!
