The title says it all really.

Was it any good?

Not been on the official tour, but my job has taken me into the bowels of the place, it's nice in places but it reminds me of an old swimming pool building in most of the places as its full of green and blue tiles plus it smells a bit clinical.

If I recall correctly, the highlight of the tour is a model of the town hall made of matchsticks...

I found this in a newsletter type thing that i have.

Tours of the civic rooms of the town hall are given by Nicky Barut. You can contact her on 0114 2039092 or mail her on nicky.barut@sheffield.gov.uk

Hope this of use. Let us know if you go and what it is like.

I went once with my kids as we were in town, they were bored, saw the sign and begged to go in! It's ok I guess. Not super exciting or anything but if you have an eye for detail some of the rooms and ceilings are pretty fantastic.

One room is full of pictures of all the Lord Mayors from way back. Some are pretty scary looking I can tell you!!

Worth a look round I'd say and double worth it as it's free!!

went for a walk down Surrey Street and then all the way round back into Pinstone Street, if that counts?

Well it should, cause you can't even do that anymore thanks to some nice hoardings :)

It was a long time ago and I have a good memory.

Sorry to exume an old thread, but I did search before I started a new one.

I went on the town hall tour on Friday, it was fairly interesting, it was the first time I've been inside. We saw the grand staircase, the council anti-room, the council chamber, the banqueting hall and the lord mayors office.

It's free and fills an hour if you've got nothing to do.

We wern't allowed to go up the clock tower though :(

I really did want to go on tour around that time but never got to go myself in the end.

Added to the growing list of things to do!

yes i went in 2002.

it was great, especially those pictures of ex-mayors all over the walls of one room. they all look like characters from a dickens novel.

good view from the room behind the balcony (opposite somerfield).

so if you're into massive chandeliers and stuff (and let's face it who isn't), and you've got an anorak, go there!

Just got round to doing this today. It's interesting to see the inside of the building and well worth the 0p admission charge :)

It happens at 2pm every day in summer, last tour this year is the last working day of August. It takes an hour and it's well worthwhile.

Does anyone please know if these are on this year??

And if so are the arrangements the same? 2pm everyday?

Sorry just realised that if i went back up through the thread there was an email address that I put on. Doh

Have mailed in the hope it is still the same person and she hasn't been made redundant. Will see what happens now.

I went on a tour of the town hall - it was good, really interesting to see the differet rooms although I can remember the guide raving about the matchstick model and me thinking 'you need to get a life!'
