View Full Version : Rant on razor blades
It seems every time I go to buy razor blades (Mach 3) they have stuck another pound on the price. Now approaching £8 for 4.No wonder they are the shoplifters favourite item and have to be security tagged. They must cost about 10p each to make.
fatwhale 09-08-2010, 00:13 buy them off shoplifters then, get them cheap if there rattling.
Yep. Way too expensive. And why i bought a 1950's safety razor - blades are about 10p a pop. Plus it's infinitely classier than whatever football-star-approved chunk of plastic Gillette are peddling this month. And shaves better too.
baby bear 09-08-2010, 06:56 aldi about 1.80 for 3 blades and a razor, dont last me quite as long as gillette blades but better value in long run
I use the WilkinsonSword Quattro, and the best thing is that ANY 'Quattro' blades fit ANY 'Quattro' razor, I got 8 blades for £6 last week @ boots and imho, they are a much more comfortable shave than my old Mac 3
Went to but a pack of 8 at the weekend, -£11.49! I have taken the decision that a cut throat razor is the only way to go.
alchresearch 09-08-2010, 12:32 I buy mine off eBay.
That's a great idea. I use Sensor Excel, they're £6 for five in the supermarkets but only £7 for ten (with free postage) on Ebay!
AJ sheffield 09-08-2010, 13:35 I have yet to find a closer shave than Gillette Fusion and King Of Shaves Alphagel and I have a mega expensive Edwin Jagger straight razor that wont even get near the Gillette.
jibbs1977 09-08-2010, 23:25 I get my mac fusion on ebay there about £4 if not more with some people cheaper than shops. I have only had fake ones once out of about 6 purchases.

How bad were the fakes? Dangerously so?
I packed them in a while back and moved over to an electric shaver. Fast, convenient, not as close, but a lot cheaper.
metalman 10-08-2010, 13:52 So while we're on the subject, what is it with razor blade manufacturers wanting just to stick an extra blade in now and again and then hiking the price up? Where will we be in about 20 years time - will every razor blade have about fifteen blades in it or is there a limit?
The more blades they put on a razor the worse they seem to shave i'm thinking of getting an old fashioned safety razor as well since there are some very good ones to choose from plus i'm a bit retro.

Are these the ones that you unscrew and place a razor blade into it? If so where do you get one from and how much are the blades?

You should buy a good quality cut throat razor. They cost a bit, but save a lot in the long run!
Buy some bic disposable razors instead, much cheaper.
Gillette blades are like printer cartridges, they sell the base unit cheap to hook you in, then make all the money on the blades.

I've bought some new and vintage razors from safetyrazors.co.uk with no issues if that helps.
