Recently I have set up a network connection so my broadband can be used downstairs using a router and a Network reciever thing. It worked fine but now i can only access MSN Messenger but when i open Internet Explorer and use the internet no webpage will open up. I've tried for weeks to rdctify this and can't find a reason why this is happening.
Can anyone else help?? i would be very grateful.
Do you still have a dial-up modem?
If you have, connect using your old dial-up account and see if Internet Explorer allows you to open web pages then.
If it does, it must be something to do with the broadband settings - one possibility is that the router has installed some sort of 'proxy' for web browsing, or taht it requires configuring to allows web access.
If it's still not showing web pages, then it soudns like a configuration issue with IE. Again, check teh options settings in IE an ensure you're not trying to go through a proxy server.

No it's a broadband modem, i think its to do with the settings aswell but i'm not very good at that side of computing.
My set up is very 'homebrew' using a PC and stand alone router software rather than a hardware router, so I can't be much help... :(
If you post up the name / brand of the router and the modem then soem of the worthies on here may help. Have you tried Googling on the problem?

Not tried to google it but i wil give it ago. The brand of the reciever and router is Belkin. Thanks for trying anyway.
I'm sure that there's another thread on the Forum at the moment about problems with Belkin kit.....
Might be worth comparing notes?

Get a Belkin ADSL Router with built in Modem. Approx £70 from PC World. Get it home, open said packaging. Call the Free of Charge Help Desk and get them to talk you through the rig/connection. This way you will be able to get a connection. Wham Bam Thankyou!
If you say it worked when you first set it up try going back to the default settings and start again. It may be you have blocked some ports.
The hardware may have failed so take it back

Just rang Belkin and the man went through it all with me. Anyway it turns out someone has accidently put the Norton Firewall on lol. I have now disabled this and the Internet is working fine. Thanks for everyones advice!
Ring the tech support line, thats what I did, with a D link router, they were really helpfull.
Probably a DNS thing???
